  • Is it best to buy the slp intake?

I'm very close to buying the slp cai, however I was talking to guy at a tuning shop, he said that there really isn't much difference between the slp and any cheap cai out there, just get one. Is this true?

spending more money will probly give you a better product but i dont really know most of the time if you go cheap you get what you pay for....

I've had a cai and an SLP intake on my car before and besides exhaust tone( SLP intake/whisper lid sounds deeper to me) I didnt notice any other difference.

I dont know if theres any dyno proven results but I switched to the the SLP intake because my CAI intake set up had the cone filter too low and close to the ground for my preferences.

the ones from ebay are pretty good and affordable, I ran one for about a year with no problems.

Or you can make your own, just eyeball the ones from ebay for an idea. The only thing you'd really spend money on is a cone filter.

Just get a K&N filter for it and you'll be good to go.

I switched to the SLP intake with a whisper lid because I didnt feel comfortable having my cone filter too low/close to my front tire and the ground.

so what your saying is that the only difference between the slp and the ebay cai is the length? Did you have to take off the splash guard/cover for it to work?

Re: Is it best to buy the slp intake?

nah I didnt have to remove anything.

The SLP intake is a metal tray that mounts on the front of the radiator, and you still use the lid style air box.

Cone filter type intakes are basically some piping with an air filter at the end. because of the space in our engine bays, the CAI's made for our cars will extend downwards towards the driver side wheel. It sits maybe 3-5 inches away from it.

You dont have to remove the splash guard or anything to install it. But becareful of big puddles of water and heavy rain. This is the reason why I switched to the SLP intake.

truekoa your thinking of the SLP intake for the 98+ camaro's im pretty sure the op is talking about a 93-97 style, which does mount in the fender.

i have had an ebay CAI that mounts in the fender the only way for it to suck up water would be to drive through some serious puddels. ive had mine for over a year with no problems.
as far as spending hundreds of dollars on the SLP one, i really dont see the point because its just a pipe.

is it be possible to make this ram air intake intake work on the angled tb. just cut off the that small hose tube and install the iat sensor there.

I think those are too short but you can prob make it work. It looks like it'll hit the fuse boxes though, the piping will need to extend towards the fuse box and then down through the radiator support to the driver side wheel well.

The double one I really doubt works. the other side of the piping with the filter will hit the A/C condenser for sure. And with the cone filter sitting that close to the engine I dont know if you'll really be sucking any "cool" air into it.
