Re: How do I get the intake manifold off?

While I was removing the damned coil packs, one of the studs broke off inside the wire for cylinder #1.

My coils are MSD Blasters. I need either to replace the busted one with a dissimilar brand, or replace all three, or wait until i can order another one which I don't have time for.

Is a dissimilar coil going to screw anything up?

no just get the same one again or get a delco one. and you dont need to worry about your map sensor it doesnt have to come off nor does your thottle body it can stay attached. to take off the upper intake i think its 10 bolts at a 8mm all around it, then 2 at a angle more in the center of it. just took mine apart this morning :P

Isn't the fuel rail a pain to get off if you don't take the map sensor out first? I think I remember taking the map sensor out every time I had to take the rail off. Watch out for those cowl pins. I always feel like a cat slid down my arm whenever I'm done working on anything around that area.

Is the map sensor that little rubber thing with the two star-bit bolts holding it in the manifold? On the left side (when facing the engine head-on)?

That's the one. There are two rubber pieces on it btw, one in the back for the FPR and one up front that goes to something that I haven't traced to. Those rubber parts should pull off easily though to get them out of the way.

As I have a intake manifold job coming up (need to do top and bottom), when ever I get time to do it, this has been ever helpful as I have never messed with the fuel lines before. hopefully I will not have to pull out the Hammer for the quick connects:D

How many bolts does the upper intake have on it?

I removed the nine bolts around the perimeter, including the two hard-to-reach ones in the back, and the intake won't budge. I saw two bolts going in diagonally on the right side of the intake (when looking straight on the engine). Is there something I'm missing, or is the intake gasket acting as glue?

Nevermind. Those two diagonal bolts did the trick.
