Hey I just installed my K&N FIPK Gen 2 cold air intake, I had to buy a rubber elbow for the kit to work on my car since it was made for a different year. When I was purchasing the rubber elbow a mechanic told me to be very careful about water getting sucked up through the intake and ruining my engine. He said there is a guard that I can purchase to prevent this. The kit is fairly well protected (fits right behind the front bumper in front of the drivers side fender). I live in Oregon and go to school in Washington so we get a lot of rain up here and really don't wanna ruin my engine. Should I look into a guard/filter to fix this? I also emailed K&N and asked them if they had any suggestions.

Just don't drive through standing water and you should be fine... Just simple rain and you won't have a problem, you'd have to just about submerge the intake to cause a problemRebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
Custom interior...

Putting one of those jackets over the air filter cuts down airflow so much
And, if you take a look at where that CAI sits, there is the plastic panel which covers the bottom and acts as a splash guard for it...protects it quite well.
I drove mine through most of winter this year, and I usually take it off...

Re: Any one have water problems from a cold air intake?
A few years ago I rolled through an intersection with standing water that got sucked up into my cold air intake. You cant try to start it after it takes on water because it is not compressible, and you can bend a rod. I pushed it the half a block home. The next morning when the wrecker loaded it the tailpipes were dumping water out of them. Got it to the shop; pulled all the plugs, and cranked it over drenching the mechanic standing next to it. Changed the oil several times, swapped the plugs, and continued to dd it for the next few years. I removed the cold air setup immediately afterwards.
