  • Inake Manifold Removal help!

Okay what I thought was a head job needed I believe is my Intake Manifold leaking because its leaking from the back of the lower manifold. Today I tried to get started on the work and I managed to get the fuel injectors off ( those brackets were hell ) I took off the back bolt to the fuel rail but im havin hell with that little one toward the front. Now I have a few questions.. Once iI get that bolt off I should be able to remove the fuel rail and after I do that I should be able to remove the upper Intake Manifold so how far along would I be? Now I drive with my Radiator cap up ( I have a pop up 1 ) because if I don't the hoses will build up pressure and become hard as rocks so I end up having to pop the cap off and it releases and bubbles off the pressure, also if I put water in the radiator it doesn't go in it just kinda comes up out of the top until I put the cap on... Would those be symptoms of the lower intake manifold leaking water from the rear? There is no water in my oil and no white smoke out of the back... Help me out fellas 3.4L

no offence but your posting a TON of threads about the same topic. I AM trying to help you, by letting you know that if you condence your problems into one big thread then you will get more exposure due to people always going to the same place to find you. You have one thread in advanced engine, one in general tech, and 3 in the intake exhaust thread. By using only ONE thread people can follow along easier to identify exactly where you are in the process of doing work, and help you better. this place has kinda become deadsville, so if you have a couple people helping you, make it easier for them, and keep our board free from clutter. when someone takes the initiative to do a search before they ask a question, they dont have to sort through a ton of dead end threads. CApeesh???

now as far as your problem, the cooling system filling with air after you have bled the air out "could" be a sign of a bad head gasket. or it could be just the intake gaskets.

have you ran a compression test? that should be an easy way of determining if you have a head gasket problem. you can rent the tool from your local parts store and do it in a matter of an hour (i know one plug is gonna be a pain in the arse) you get your numbers and the lowest number should not be less than (someone can correct me if im wrong, cause im kinda unsure) 10% of the highest number. example if your highest cylinder reads 170 psi, then your lowest cylinder should not read lower than 153psi (170-17=153)

what i would do is take the intake manifold off, since you have already started, and go ahead and replace those gaskets. while you have the upper and lower intake off the car, run a compression test. Mind you, you will need to remove the fuel pump relay to do this with the engine taken apart.

Check and double check that you have all the bolts out. pull up on it and see where it is being held in place, then see if there is a bolt there. it should pull out with little to no effort. its been a little bit since i worked on the 3.4 so i can remember where everything is.

So it should all come up.... Maybe I'll just have to pull harder... So when I pull that and the upper Intake Manifold off it will expose the Lower Intake manifold? Then I should be gettin close to half way done... Oh yeah there are two gas lines toward the back on the fuel rail... Do I need to mess with those at all? And if so do you know how to take them off because the book only shows removal for the V8

                        Re: Inake Manifold Removal help!

If you've got all the bolts out of the fuel rail, the next step is to pull the fuel injectors up from the lower intake manifold. Unless you unhooked all of the injectors from the fuel rail? If you did that, then basically you just created more work for yourself. All you have to do is pull the injectors up from the lower intake manifold, then the fuel rail, and upper intake manifold will come out from under the cowl together. Pretty simple.

                          Re: Inake Manifold Removal help!

I unhooked the fuel rail and all of the clips and connectors from the injectors now all I have is the Rail and the Injectors in the lower manifold.... Do I screw the injectors out or just pull them out with some needle nose pliers? And What about those two rails on the back of the fuel rail.... Do I bother those?

Use something to pry the injectors up with, like a flat head screwdriver. And I'm not sure what your talking about when you say the 2 rails on the back of the fuel rail???

At the back of the rail there are these two cords that I think are apart of the fuel line.... but the injectors do pop out tho?... U got me excited once I finish with these questions im going to my car because I think after I pull the rail injectors on the upper intake i'll be to the lower and almost halfway home... I miss my car so much :-(
