Thanks fellas honestly you guys are the only ones helping me with this. I couldn't even get family members to help out! Now when you speak out the LIM what is that exactly... Maybe you have a pic of it! Another thing when I start to put these gaskets back on do I have to use black gasket maker or can I use blue too. And which side do I put the gasket maker on when im putting that stuff on the gaskets

        Re: Inake Manifold Removal help!

The LIM is the lower intake manifold. No problem on the help man, thats what this forum is here for.

For your second question, it doesn't matter which one you use. I never use much "gasket maker" tho. I only put it in small spots on the corners of the gaskets, only using it to hold the gasket in place while I work. You don't want to use much of products like that, cause it will seep out when you tighten bolts down, and it will end up in your intake.

So all and all I can put off of these gaskets back on without using any gasket makers. I was thinking of finger spreading some around the gasket itself to help it stick.. I think I should use some on the valve covers tho considering there was some on there when I took it off... Would you guys agree?

no. gasket maker really only needs to be placed on the valley corners of where the LIM sits on the head. the gaskets themselves should stay in place, just make sure to set the LIM down in one shot and not pivot on one end.

The new LIM gasket will come with a small tube of black RTV. The instructions will direct you to put it on the corners of the blue silicone strip that goes on the front and the back of the intake manifold. The valve covers do not require any sealant. IMO they seal better without it. You will need to put thread sealant on most of the bolts going back into the LIM, and the long bolt in the thermostat housing. Might as well change out the thermostat while your in there.

Okay you guys know those long black things that sit under the nuts on the valve covers.... Well I kinda dropped a few of them and can't find them.... Will it be okay if some of them aren't there?

                        Re: Inake Manifold Removal help!

Oh yeah and the weather stripping on my hood sucks because I popped my hood and literally 3 of the 6 intake holes were full to the top with water and water was leaking on my valves... I would assume draining the oil with get rid of my water prob for my valves, but how can I get that water out of the intake manifold holes?

Question as far as valve lash.. The book states that you turn the nut an additional 3/4- 1 1/2 turn after there is no play what so ever in the rods. Does that count being able to move it around or is that no movment what so ever not even being able to twirl the rod?

Thanks.... But yeah just making sure because I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN... I Start counting the 3/4 turn after all spin has stopped? Because when I took te valve covers off some of those rods were spinning before I took them out
