  • Time for a new exhaust

It finally happened. I pulled out of my driveway this morning and the muffler fell off. I purchased the car in February and have replaced two hangers and a clamp in order to keep the stock catback going as long as possible. I knew it was on its final death bed over the weekend when I fired it up and heard another loud exhaust leak.

The factory single outlet exhaust obviously needs replaced. I want dual outlets and a little rumble, but not enough that the car will sound "ricer". The 3" Magnaflow catback that was on my '96 LT1 sounded great, but again that was an LT1, not a V6. I have never replaced the exhaust on a V6 car.

I am retaining the factory headers, y-pipe and catylic converter.. no intentions of ever replacing them. So what aftermarket catback would be best? Flowmaster?

p.s. Before anyone decides to jump me again for using the word "ricer", I would love to tell you before hand exactly where you can go and what you can do there, but the language is not appropriate for this forum.

i dont like the sound of magnaflow on a v6. sounds hollow (is that the right word?) to me.

if ur looking for cheap= flowmaster

i have a 3" magnaflow catback on my car and i like it. look around for a used system to save some money (i got mine for 100 shipped - it took about 6mo. of searching, though).

go to junkyard or find someone parting out a v8 car. Take the cat back off v8 car and use that.

when i was upgrading, i did check out magnaflow as well before i decided to go all the way with borla --- they're nice setups, but i agree it sounds a bit "hollow" or off to me in some way, but a nice way to put it is "mellow".

flowmaster will sound like a jar of pissed off bees at WOT (had it before)

check out a texas rumbler or slp loudmouth if you want loud and throaty, or if you want something a bit quieter but supposedly smooth, ask Team Superturbo about the dynomax muffler :p

all in all, depends on your budget like the fellas said...what kind of coin are u willing to put into it?

I am looking at less than $300 cash and I will do the installation myself.

Re: Time for a new exhaust

I threw a dynomax single in/dual out ($90) and had a set of tailpipes made (roughly $150). No rasp and sounded even better when it was cammed.

Or you could buy some piping fron summit and whichever muffler you want and make your own cat back. Price shouldn't be too bad.

price for the 2.5 in pipeing from summit will be 150 and thats u bend over axel pipe and the i pipe. i did that and found a magnaflow muffler with tips for 150 too. but a word of advice if you having it welded on have a shop that knows what there doing put it on. i spent 120 fixing the welds my brother did (27 exhaust leaks)
