I have had some thoughts about getting a cutout for my car. Any feedback on them? I have a dynomax super turbo right now but I ffeel it should be a little louder for my liking...

    Re: cutout

I got one on my car. It's nice for low RPM cruising if you want to be heard.
Anything over 3k scares me a little, things start to rattle and it just get ungodly loud.

I have an electric one. Open for when I want to be heard a few blocks away, closed for when I want to go fast.

do it...I leave mine open all the time...its a little raspy up top, but w.e. Thats the sound of power...learn to embrace it. Porches are raspy to... Mines dumped just over my rear axle. I can no longer drive it when its closed...just not as fun.

          this.

i have a stainless 3" badlanz electric and i love it. rocker switch installs and hides perfectly under the removable ashtray in your flip-up, operates smoothly, and is great for when you want to be stealthy or just balls to the wall loud.

but like our canadian friend said, once you have the right setup you'll want to leave it open --- i never close mine anymore except just to show ppl what it does that have never seen one. overall, it sounds great with my full exhaust and i get a ton of compliments.

            Re: cutout

yeah i listened to the one vid on youtube of the silver camaro with the cutout right before the axle, which is where i planned on putting it but I don't have headers or a high flo cat so I am wondering what mine would sound like...i wish someone had a video of a driveby with one, that youtube vid is a idle vid and some short revs to 2500 rpms..nothing impressive...

1.would headers and high flow be worth investing in with this?
            2.also, i have to ask...are e-cutouts legal? lol
3.& one final question, I had a shop put on my exhaust and i gave them 2.5" piping from after the S-pipe and back..problem is the stock cat is 3", then reduces to 2.25" then opens up to 2.5"..would it be worth replacing the S-pipe to 2.5"?

            thanks for the help guys

              Re: cutout

I would invest in headers and go to a full 3" set up. Or 2.5...because some will say its better. Either way you dont want to bottle neck your exhaust, try to to get it all the same diameter.

What state do you live in? they illegal in mine, but the guy doesnt look under my car.

I have DMH 3" cut out, I love it, I took one of my cig lighters out and the switch fit perfect there, looks like a factory option.

                Re: cutout

i live in missouri..i failed my inspection a month ago for blacked out tail lights and my sunstrip was too low. I think i just went to a strict place but they claim blackouts are illegal and fail inspection...funny thing is i bought 2 taillights from the junkyard but one was cracked. the guy goes, well technically, i have to pass ya because u replaced the defective part and even though u replaced it with anohter defective part, it wasnt the original defective part so it passes...what a loophole...

i would imagine they would fail for a cutout in missouri but i was thinkin maybe i would make it so where i could replace the cutout with a straight pipe if need be..

                  Re: cutout

I would just do a dynomax Bullet race muffler with a small resonator before it , that way it will be free flowing and not have the high pitch rasp of the cutout when its open. I had a electric cutout right before the muffler in the rear and with it fully open it was good at idle and crusing but at WOT it was too raspy for my taste. Meatyshells agreed with me on that after we installed it. Headers full 3" mandrel bent exhaust with a resonator and Bullet race muffler should have the sound your looking for. Or even bypass the resonator and do the muffler.
