  • flowmaster for 89 Firebird

I would like to put something that will make this car sound a little better than what it currently sounds like. It's V-6 2.8L. I bought it brand new, it ony has 45,000 original miles on it. A person at flowmaster told me this make of car requires a cross-flow style muffler that sits behind the rear axle. I know absolutely NOTHING about cars. He did say this type of muffler would cause a great deal of noise inside the car unless I added a resonator which I have no idea what they are. He said another alternative would be there 50 Delta Flow muffler which would only allow for one tailpipe and I like to keep both.

I heard glass packs when the car is stopped don't really sound good. Are there any other alternatives out there for me that won't put a hole in my wallet.

Summit turbo $25, or a Dynomax muffler $30-$60 depending on muffler.

Put a short cherry bomb glasspack up stream from the flowmaster. That's what the exaust shop told me when I had a cherrybomb elite in my car. Its a single chamber muffler that's built kinda like a flowmaster.

What's my budget like you ask, I've put so much money into this car since I own it, I don't have a budget anymore, but I'd probably go about $200, or do I need more?

Look at Summit they have a 3" exhaust pipes with mandrel bend over the axle for like $140 shipped , thats the over the axle pipe and the straight pipe coming from the CAT. The rest would be easy to buy, I run a Dynomax Bullet race muffler which basicly is a Borla XR-1 and mine sounds very good, although its cammed and has headers with no CAT, but has a big round deisel resonator to cut down rasp which I have none to 6000K. So might loook at Summit for pipping, 2.5" would be cheaper also if you go that route.

I personally hate flowmaster, sound like crap at WOT and dont flow for crap either.

Check out summit, I would go with a cat back, not just change the muffler. If you go on summit you can choose if you want to have 1 tail pipe or 2, just depends on the muffler style.

no flowmaster..... flowmaster even sounds crappy on alot of v8s. I had a dif muffler on my camaro a few years ago called the Afterburner and made by Holley, good sound and not expensive.

I was driving the car in a tunnel a few days ago, and I could hear what my flowmaster sounded like from outside. It's freakin awesome for a V6. Once cam and headers go on and I hollow out my cat, It'll be the bestest, awesomest V6 ever.:)

you must have some limited release flowmaster muffler.

                      youtube video will be required.

OK, I concede. Your car is awesomer sounding than mine. :) For now;)
The problem with Youtube videos is the sound quality of the different cameras people use. Most will sound very different in person. The other variable is whether the car is revving in the driveway or under load while driving. That will sound different as well.

LOL, This is why I don't post sound clips of my car, my camera's mic sucks for audio and it never will sound like it does in person.
