Re: Oh no... I didn't want this

Doesn't sound too bad, as said above; only so much you can do... Amazing how different the sound is from my Flowmaster. A lot more of a "tuned" sound vs. the aggressive throaty sound.

That actually sounds a lot like my truck. 2.5" Magnaflow dual exit catback on a 4-cyl.. Sounds fine to me, but like said above..maybe a little more tuner than muscle

gotta say i dont like that sound. magnaflow on our cars always has a tuner, hollow kind of sound to me. i prefer the throatier flowmaster sound.

however i dont think it is too raspy.

I have to say, I agree. The sound was growing on me for a couple of days,
but now that is wearing off. It almost seems like its getting louder and ricier
as it burns in. I went under a freeway overpass today and it sounded just
like one of those tuner Hondas with the 5" tailpipes, only louder. I'm kinda
afraid that I'm going to get pulled over for it now.

So I've decided that next payday I'm going to get a different muffler.
The question is - Which one? I've narrowed it down to either a Dynomax
Super Turbo, or a Flowmaster, or possibly a Cherry Bomb (not glasspacks.)
I really want to get rid of the 'tuner' sound all together. The quieter, the better.
But I don't want it 'stock' quiet.

I've never heard a Dynomax in person (that I know of anyway.)
Does any one here have a good quality sound clip of one? I've heard
plenty of Flowmasters and I do like their sound. I'm just afraid it will
drone too much, and I'll have a headache after driving it for 20 minutes.
That's one good thing about the Magnaflow, it really doesn't drone at all
              when just cruising.

I was hoping to find a Flowmaster 50 or 70 series, but I don't see one
in the "Camaro Style." Only the 40 series has that style (maybe I missed
              it though.)
I actually ran dual Flowmasters on my 64 Chevelle 327. Holly crap that thing
was loud, inside and out! Droned really bad, but the mufflers were right under
the back seat, and the car didn't have any insulation to speak of, just the carpet.

I like the Dynomax VT series, too (the ones with the no-drone valve in them.)
But they don't have those in Camaro style either.

Another week until payday, so I have some time to research more.
Your guys' input is also welcomed.

Re: Oh no... I didn't want this

trust me on this one the car is alot quieter then than the magnaflow. i found with my magnaflow once it gets warmed up no more rasp. also if you had the magnaflow tips there is a way to make the tips into glasspacks. a guy did a write up a while ago on here on how to do it. his clip was the cleanest ive ever heard i would suggest the glass pack ether before or after the muffler. you can fit one on the I pipe or you can do two behind the muffler. on my brothers bmw two glass packs took the car from hearing it from 4 miles away and giving you a head ach on the interstate to only hearing it a mile away just a little louder then my camaro on glass packs while still maintaining the sound.

Re: Oh no... I didn't want this

/\ Sorry madforce, but Magnaflow has lost my vote (in the muffler department, anyway.)
Maybe it would sound better on a V8. It's just not what I'm looking for. And for the
price of having two glasspacks put on after the muffler (which a friend of mine suggested,)
I could almost pay for the whole muffler and install (I'm not a welder, so can't do it myself.)
I don't want to be heard a mile away unless I'm really on it. The way it is right now,
it can probably be heard at least 2 miles away, in the dead of night. And a half a mile
away in busy traffic (again, when I'm really on it.)

its all good. i know how bad some exhausts can sound. that bmw used to wake me up idling into the driveway it was so loud. the magnaflow is the best that i have found but thats also to my liking too and also mine was a bit raspy in the begining but its still getting quieter and quieter and i bought mine used. so thats why i like my magnaflow so much. mine has been on for 10 months now.but exhaust note is a personal preference so its all up to you. oh and by the way may favorite sound is blasting (well rolling on the throttle)by other traffic and hearing the ecco off of them.

Actually I would need either 43083 or 53083 (need 3" inlet.)
Not sure what the difference between them are, other than case size.

As long as it's an 80 series it should be the same sound.

shouldnt have bought the cheap exhaust from the shop. now you dont have mandrel bent pipes. ditch the whole system and buy a bolt on magnaflow system. will never rust like flowmaster crap will and sounds better then any other on the v6. I paid 450 for the system and bought it the second week i bought my car. stock sucks and so does rice.

Uhmm...No. I don't think so. And actually the only part that really needs mendral bends is the piece that goes over the axle. And mine is mendral bent.
