  • Throttle Sticking!

I have an 02 that's completely stock, drive-by-wire, 4l60e. i bought the car at 111k, rebuilt the motor, and it ran perfectly for about 2k miles. then one day, the throttle started sticking, as in the rpms and mph would stay completely constant, even uphill. these trannys have that high speed lockup crap. it almost always does it in top gear and while coasting. tapping the brake brings it back to normal. it does it a couple times everyday now; i drive about 25 miles a day with 2/3 of that highway

since then ive just lived with it because its not that annoying and also i havent a clue why its doing this. its throwing the ses light, code p0420, for what i suspect to be a bad cat, but i doubt that is related. around the time the problem came about, i put a new headunit, amplifier and subwoofer in. the power cable runs near the computer, but i doubt thats related either.

ive googled, searched the forum, nothing. any input??

Sounds like TPS sensor, yours is newer so no IAC,or maybe Maf sensor. Try cleaning the TB and see if that helps.

Yeah agree with the throttle body assumption, try rotating the throttle by hand in the engine bay and see if it sticks. Could just be dirt and grime or possibly the throttle cable itself. Is your pedal sticking also??

There's no throttle cable, it's drive by wire.

Now that you mention it, my car stays in gear when I'm coasting to a stop until I tap the brakes, the rpms go down slowly and everything though. Also an 02. I never really thought anything of it til you said anything. I'll try to pay attention in my 98 which has a cable driven throttle.

it shouldnt be staying p in the rpms like that. Sounds like a tps or sticking throttle issue. Check your floormats lol

I know on hptuners you can view the tps.
