  • Installed my SLP CAI!

    It took me 30-38 mins to install it. It was simple, Ill try to compille a complete photo thing on how to install it. I didnt need to do any mods to the car for the fit. [img]graemlins/fluffy.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/fluffy.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/fluffy.gif[/img] One thing did confuse me. Do I need the plate?

    Once the install was complete. I noticed an instant gain of tq and a litle hp, I could really hear the swooshing of air. Also I heard a little bit of a gargle in the exhaust. [img]graemlins/fluffy.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/fluffy.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/fluffy.gif[/img]

      Can't wait til I get mine, won't be until after I get the exhaust put on.


      I'm not sure about the plate. I know some don't come with them, so then you probably couldn't put one on.

        Yeah, keep that blockoff plate. You can use it when it rains as a precaution against water getting sucked into the engine. Rare, but it has happened. You can also use it if the car runs hotter than normal. Yes, the plate will disable your CAI.

          No. This is from a 95-97 car.

          The plate is supposed to go in the little part right above where the filters are. You probably don't need it, mine was never clipped down, it just kinda rested in there.

            Yeah, I use it on mine. I noticed a 5º Differnce in temp with the plate off. not much but I notice everything. Id imagine that it cools the rest of the bay a little bit with it off though. either way. I think on is better. it was made for a reason, im sure that the idea is to k33p it cooler.

                It is a cold air kit.
                The main reason for that plastic plate you are all talking about is to completely eliminate the possibility of engine heat being sucked into the engine thus creating a much better cold air kit.

                Typically the stang cold air kits relocate the air filter into the passenger side fender with a plate to seal off engine heat

                  Is there a noticable difference in Throttle response, HP, and torque? I'm considering buying either the SLP, or the K&N. To my understanding it is designed for the 3.8 but will it work for a 3.4?

                    I got the SLP CAI...and I'm glad I got it but I really couldn't tell that much of a difference :\

                      My car is completely stock, well was. Anyways, as soon as I put it on, I noticed a little growl in the stock exhaust, I noticed instant tq power, and a little hp gain, I took it out and I was really amazed, I could hear it sucking the air and notice about 7 hp gain and 10 tq gain, even though the air filters are dirty thats not a bad increase. With new filters, I am sure that it will give me 10-12 hp and 15-17 tq. I am going to get a dyno test done soon. Also, If you get a K&N FIPK, you will need a 1LE Elbow for the intake.

                        I was thinking about getting the CAI for my new RS. But I wasn't sure if I should get the lid to go with it. Not sure if they would be worth all that money. I know I want the CAI with a K&N filter. Do you guys recommend the Whisper lids?

                          I've had mine on for a while now, didn't notice THAT big of a difference at first until I went WOT for the first time down the freeway.

                          I use the plate. The instructions are sort of backwards though, you really don't have to go under the car to clean the filters/take off the intake. I just unhook the metal arm from the elbow and the plate comes up with the filters.
                          Remove filters, clean...put the plate on then the filter. Lower the filters, reattach to elbow and snap the plate in. I sort of broke one clip on the plate but oh well.
