  • exhaust leak help????

Ok I jsut had a car show over last weekend adn won a first place trophy for Firebird full. When i started the car up to leave the building I heard a loud ticking sound. I knew right off it was an exhaust leak. I've had the exhaust leak for a while previous to this, but it wasnt as loud as it was when i was leaving the show for some reason. The car just sat at the show over the weekend with the hood up and I'm pretty sure nonone tampered with it. However, yesterday I checked all the studs on the headers and they were tight along with the ones at the y-pipe. I even check my O2's to make sure they wre tight and in right. I'm not sure wut else it could be. I hope its not the heads leaking. If anyone knows wut i can do to fix this problem please help me out. Thanx a lot guys!

Okay i have the same exact problem. Do you have the rksport headers? what is happening is that the y pipe does not aline with the headers perfectly. the gasket(or as they call them "collectors") in between the headers and the y pipe gets burnt and gives you a small enough leak to make that sound. i have went through about 5 or 6 collectors since i have had them on and i only have had them on for almost a year. Good luck and let me know what you find out. If you can find a solution to fixing it without having to mess with it all the time let me know cuz it gets old having to fix it all the time.

No I have the CIA headers and y-pipe. The bolts holding my y-pipe to my headers are rusted all to hell and I've only had them on a lil before summer. So I went today to Lowes and got some #8 nuts and bolts to put on it. They shouldnt rust as bad as the ones that are on there now cuz they are #5 nuts and bolts. I will make sure that they are tight as can be and recheck my o2's. If that dont work then Ill jsut get a regulare gasket and add it with the existing paper gasket and I think that may do it. You cna try the same man and see wut happens.

Well I got a set of Mr. Gasket gaskets to try and fix the leak. I put the one on the passenger side of the y-pipe whee I thought the leak is comin form. After feeling successful that did it. I started the car and i still heard the annoying leaking noise. So know I'm thinin its in the passenger header toward the back. I dotn see any black exhaust dirt on top of the header so that looks fine, but the underside maybe leaking. I hope not cuz that will be a pain to redo. I've also thought it may be my head leakin which would be under warranty still. Any thoughts guys!
