How many times can a K&N filter be cleaned?

Does the gauze get worn out with repeated cleanings?

I'm just wondering if there is any downside to frequent cleanings , other than as K&N says, the dirt "helps filter the air."

I have had my k&n filter for about 2 years know and I have cleaned probably 10 times. still in brand new condition.

Its got a 1 million mile warranty so it basically should be the last filter you buy.

If it looks nasty, clean it - just never over or under oil the thing and never oil it wet :D

Service Life

A K&N Filtercharger can be washed up to 25 times before it is considered no longer serviceable. Even though the filter may not show outward signs of deterioration, it should be replaced after 25 washings. Excessive washings will deplete the tiny cotton hairs that crisscross the openings. The resulting damage will allow tiny dust particles to pass through.

i dont know why anyone would want to clean it ten times,.. going by the intructions, thats equivilant to 500,000 miles.
but if your going to clean it alot,.. no prob. not, i dont see how cleaning it alot hurts it. but stll i dont think they are designed to stay clean.
