  • Flowmaster Hushpower

Just want to make a thread for this thing since I've never heard anyone talk about it. I got pulled in 24 hrs. after having my loudmouth installed, so I milked the 20 days I had to get it fixed. Then I had to find a quiet bullet muffler or change everything! I came across the flowmaster hushpower bullet muffler, and it did the job for me. This muffler doesn't rice out because it's to damn quiet! At least with the high flow and the 3in. pipes it has a little rumble to it. The best sound comes when I'm cruisin one notch above 2k downtown so the sound reverberates off of the buildings. Besides that it's hard to be proud of this as I was the loudmouth. After passing inspection I've got a dynomax bullet in the garage that's going on.

Thats one good thing about alabama... no inspections. I used to have an old bronco with a 351 as my "mudder". It had headers with no cat no muffler and 3 in pipes and 5 in tips. You talk about loud. I never got in any trouble at all with it. I am glad i dont have to worry with inspections that would suck.

Hushpower II For those who are confused, like I was at first! ;)

It says that the largest diameter is 2.5"
Is that the one you have? How does it sound?

Yeah, thats the one I have. I doesn't sound as aggressive as the vortex muffler I used to have, which is supposed to be a flowmaster rip off. The hushpower sounds very mellow and isn't exactly a headturner, but if you hit the sweat spot around 2k rpm, it does show some of that 6 cylinder anger. But nothing beats the loudmouth! That's the price I pay for living in a rich suburban nieghborhood, seriously it's nice but nobody can get away with anything!

Ok, well the guy at the dmv says my hushpower still has a little rumble to it so he can't sign my ticket off. Now I have to travel across the state to the main dmv headquarters so I can getting tested with the..... decimeter? My snoring is more likely to wake the nieghborhood than my exhaust! It seems connecticut past some law jan. 1st that anything other than stock is not accepted, now I'm not hearing any engines rumble lately. I'm not going down like that, it's time for electric cutouts so I can play with these people!

OK.... it's time to fight the old school way! :D

              Here's what you need:
Drill & small (1/4" or less) drill bits
2 metal coat hangers (possibly 1) or some solid copper wire
1 or 2 (depending on exhaust outlets) balls of steel wool (thicker the better; you want to fill the tailpipe with one ball)

              Here's what you do:

Drill two small holes (one on each side) in the tailpipe somewhat close to the tip(s) but far enough away that this mod will not be obvious.

Shove the steel wool up to the holes in the tailpipe(s). Run the wire through the hole into the steel wool into the other hole. Bend the ends of the wire so it doesn't fall out.

This should effectivly lower your exhaust's decible rating. :D

This will be a temporary fix and just hope they don't ask you to rev it up to high (and blow the steel wool out). ;)
