  • Flowmaster Problems!!

Ever since I have had my Flowmaster mufflers I've had weird rattling noise at about 4-5rpms, also when in just sitting there and rev it up it seems to peek at 4k and wount go any further, is it because of the mufflers or something else?? Any help would be appreceated.

rattling might be from clogged cat, or heat shield.

I had a flowmastrer on a stock exhaust and after 4K it got very ricey sounding, almost like a rattle. When I changed to 3 inch piping, hiflow cat, and header it only happens occationally now usually only when it's cold... But definitly check you heat sheildings. Have some one rev the car for you and (whith heavy duty gloves or something) start looking at the heat sheilding, hold it in place and have your friend rev the car see if it stops. work your way from one end to the other. Hope this helps...

I have the same problem!! I just got a new catco hi-flow (co6909) cat. from summit for $60.00! Hopefully when we install it today the problem will be gone. Oh, I too have a flowmaster muffler!!! I'll let you know what happens.

Pretty much what they said check your cat/heat shields, and the 4K rpm peak is the rev limiter in Park or Neutral

Umm well thanks for the help, but (stupid question coming on...) What heat sheild are you talking about.

I've had the flowmaster for over a year and just in the past few weeks it started rattling. I had someone rev it up and I checked everything that was visible and didn't notice anything. I think that there is either some debris in the muffler or something in the muffler broke. I think something internally broke because I don't know how debris would get in there.

If anyone has found the cause of this, please post it here. I'm going to try and ask flowmaster about this.

I called Flowmaster and Jegs and they said a baffle probably broke in mine. Luckily it was still under warrenty (1 year warrenty) so I can get a new one and it will only cost me to ship the old one back.

If you just installed it and you hear a rattle, check to make sure it isn't touching the frame.

Yea that 4k rev thing when sitting still is annoying.. put it in neutral and let the car roll while its rolling rev it then hit the brakes again. It will rev to redline that way ;)

Dam*, I'm having the same problem! I bought the 2.5" Flowmaster made for our cars (98-02 w/resonator) and about a month later, which is today, I hear a bad rattle almost all the time.

Tommorow, I'll check for the heat sheild, if it is not that, I'll ship it back.
