• HELP ME TO FIND THE TRUTH!

In europe , V6 camaro is 193 hp rated (and not 200) (288 hp for the Z28)

Magazines said it's because the camaro is rated too noisy for us... and that the exhaust has changed for us.

Well, I've put my Flowmaster catback this morning
So here is my ex camaro exhaust:
My question is: do you have the same muffler?

HERE IS THE PIX!

this is better now:

whoa! Check out that rear bumper! That thing must be lit up like a lighthouse when behind it at night.
No offense, but I'm glad they didn't do that over here.

Yeah, that was the factory muff I had too. Turn-down pipe and all. Thank god I got rid of it.

rear bumper is ugly...
All european must have those light...
It's rear fog lights

The same muff?
damn...so why 193hp stock? still a mystery!

in SAE / DIN hp conversion , we here in our hp must have 203hp, not 193...

I love my flowmaster catback (installed this morning)... Let's go outside to heard the exhaust sound, I'll wake up my neighbourgs all nite long!

I don't know what the inside of the muffler looks like, but I know it's the same exterior. Maybe they did something different to the engine...?

The parts manual shows different part numbers for the mufflers on European Camaros. (It also shows that the European Z-28 has a single tailpipe with turndown, like the V6.) The cars with the quieter muffler have RPO code VP6 which is described as "noise level control".

Another difference is that the European exhaust system shows a heat alarm system for the catalytic converter.

The European cars should also have RPO code NA7 for "emissions system european". The PCM (engine control computer) has a specific part number for cars with the NA7 code.

I suspect that the lower horsepower rating is due to a more restrictive muffler on the European cars compared to the American cars. There might be different spark or fuel curves in the PCM as well that could be responsible for part of the power reduction.

Wow those lights in the back sure are different, but the Firebirds here have the two round clear bulbs between the tail lights, I guess it's the same principle. It looks like the stock cat back system to me, but the inside could be more restrictive, and your programming could have been altered as well to meet European regulations.

Hey FRENCH_CAMAROV6,

I found the RPO codes listed in the exhaust system section of the Parts Manual for 4th generation Camaro. The parts manual was made available for download by someone on this board a while back. I have it saved on my work computer. (At home dial-up modem is too slow -- it was about 30 megs.)

The V6 and Z28 VP6 mufflers are not the same -- they have different part numbers.

Off subject but you might find interesting, I own a french car! It is a 1973 Citroen SM. 3.0 litre V6 Maserati engine with 3 weber carburators. 5-speed manual transmission. Unfortunately it is not running now due to major failure of the hydropneumatic suspension but it is all intact. Someday I may restore it. I think about 3000 of them were imported to the US in 1971-1973.
