I'm planning on making it my first mod as well. From what people have told me and from what I hear, it's the best "bang-for-you-buck" mod. It's relativley cheap and does give a decent performance gain from what you're paying.
I'm gonna get a Whisper Lid (along with Holley or K&N filter) and then the SLP CAI to complement it. Should be a good amount of performance gain.

I bought a Whisper Lid from Thunder Racing and have been very pleased.
If you are really poor, you can make your own (like I did while I was saving for the Whisper Lid):

Just be sure to check on parts if you get this lid, especially the smooth intake bellows. Some of the smooth intake bellow kits won't work with the whisper lid.2000 3.8L Firebird, Silver Metallic<br /><br />\"Yes, London. As far as I know there are not any v6 specific smooth bellows kits. Please be sure before suggesting things.Keith - 99 'maro - White M5 - bumpstick and boltons - 13.65 @ 101 N/A

I haven't noticed any difference in my home-made whisper lid vs the REAL whisper lid....so i guess it all boils down to if you want the "name" on it or not.Stephen Cruikshank<br /><br />Selling some stuff so all I have left is the FRA, !MAF Screen, whisper lid, Holley PowerShot, 3\" catback, and 160* thermo on the car<br /><br />I Practice Street S.M.A.R.T.S. - do you?

I'm not convinced it did much for power. It sure looks like it would help the intake flow, though.
For SOTP feel I think the biggest change for me was the 87 octane tune on the Hypertech HPP3.2002 Camaro Coupe<br />Navy Blue, A4, Y87<br />Whisper Lid, Raised Air Box<br />SLP Bow-Tie Grill, HPP3

You can't compare a SOTP difference between an intake and advanced timing and leaner a/f. I was happy with my lid when I got it loved the sound of the intake and it changed the sound of my car overall at the time (flowmaster 80).00\' firebird v6 5spd<br />201rwhp ---- 230 rwtq<br />\"Everyday I grow stronger...and further from you.\"<br />WARNING: Do not take any of my comments seriously unless they are technical in nature and then only at your own risk
