I need a favor. In Distephano's other thread he described a problem with the fitment of the most recent batch of pacesetter headers. When exactly this most recent batch starts is what i would like to find out. on each set of headers there should be a sticker that looks something like this on the outside of the small box the hardware came in. http://www.thenebula.com/carpics/pics3/IM002560.JPG

there is also a similar sticker and the large 6 digit number should be printed on the gasket package also.

If everyone could post that 6 digit number and possibly the date found in the lower corner of the sticker (as well as whether or not you had the fitment problem) maybe it would be possible to find out where the problem started.

What im hoping is that mine were made long enough ago that I avoided the problem all together.

edit: it appears the 6 digit number is just the model number. the date however will be different, so just post that.

6 digit number is 70-1209 and date is 04/22/04. i think u will be ok, as only the recent ones are defected. It could also just mean that the bolts are old stock and headers where just made recently. i still havent installed mine yet, so i could not be able to tell u.

i read your other post. i told Eric at pacesetter that either send me the part just incase or send me a new 2 piece y-pipe. i told him that its your product that is defected and i aint taking on the cost to reinstall my manifolds just incase they dont fit.

well, apparently 70-1209 is just the model number so that will be the same for everyone. the date on mine however goes all the way back to november of last year. hopefully mine will be ok then. i think im going to tell eric the same thing you told him.

Loochy - I bought mine in December and installed them a couple months ago. there were no problems at all with them. I am pretty sure the box is still in the garage, I'll check and see and post tonight. No sense in making Pacesetter build/ship parts for sets that are OK.... although I do understand your anxiety.

i think you bought your in good shape. i believe the reason that the headers are having problems is because they were in back order and got alittle to rushy.

Eh? What does a little bit of rust have to do with them not fitting? If they got some rust on them they would be cleaned off before being painted/coated.

I received mine (coated) early April. So If you received them in late March (uncoated) or early April (coated) then you'll probably have a problem.

As far as the date on the small box:
The box is probably prepacked. If they do not utilize inventory control methods like FIFO (First in first out)or LIFO (Last in First out) it's very possible you could have a parts (the bolts) box that is a year or more older that the headers. The headers are what was back ordered in this case, not the small parts.

he meant rushed when he said rushy, not rusty. there was a big group order that was backordered

The problem was with the Jig that held the Header tubes, and the plate they were welded too. The Tech told me that that there was too much slop in this jig, which means they were welded out of spec.

By going to the 2 Peice y-pipe, I feel they are not really correcting the problem with the slop in the welding, but rather just allowing for it through other parts of the package. :(

Its the easier way to fix the problem. The real way would be to sent people non defective parts to replace those they have however thats not very cost effective for a business to do.
