i have pacesetter headers and the Borla rear section kit. im want to know if this setup isnt as effecint as others because the Ypipe is 3" and the cat is smaller then runs to through the stock middle-pipe-that-goes-over-the-axle pipe and out the borla muffler and tips. would it be better to have a highflow cat and have a shop make a 3" middle-pipe-that-goes-over-the-axle pipe to the muffler? also what gains would a highflow cat have and what is a quality one? Thanx in advance.

Yes, you will see plenty some gain. Some people have said they've seen as much as 5 RWHP added just from the high flow cat and 3" s-pipe. Good cheap cat would be Magnaflow. If you want the best and are willing to pay for it, go with a Random Technology.Eclipse 8443, CDT ES-620s in doors (Clarion APX401.2), IEK, CDT 6X in rear(HU), Image Dynamics ID10v.3D.4 in stealthbox(Clarion DPX1001.2)
http://www.sounddomain.com/id/larryfirebird33
borla cat-back, FTRA, whisper lid
