  • Remove air silencers on a 98' fbird?

Does anyone know how to effectivly remove the air silencers on a 98' car(the years where the TB is slanted to the right). I had a piece of 4" dryer pipe running from the air box to the TB and I noticed that it was ripped the other day. Luckily I caught that in time because it was a very large hole. I thought that was a good solution but that piping is apparently not strong enough. Any suggestions, anyone tried this? I know I could buy the whisper but I'd rather do it myself if possible. Thanks.

Use 3 or 4" PVC pipe in place of the dryer hose.

I used dryer hose and it works fine..you probably either need to get pvc pipe like he said or get better dryer hose (Lowe's or Home Depot has good stuff usually)

You guys are all giving false information. 98 Cars are way different then 99+. Its not as easy as using pvc pipe. Buy a whisper lid its not worth the hassle. Even if you do it right it wont be effective because of all the bends in the hose needed to mate it to the TB. Just buy a lid.

I don't have a whisper lid (yet) because of this reason.. I have thought about looking into that silicone tubing they use on turbo and super charger setups.. like these pieces.. turbo technics online catalog

but I need to break down and buy a whisper lid then proably buy a couple of connectors and go from there.. anyway I am betting you could use a combination of the connectors and get just as good of flow (or maybe even better) than the dryer hose method..

that is the only option I can think of.. either way to change the hose you prettymuch need to move to a whisper lid because from what I understand they have a more circular piece coming off the lid vs the very oval shaped stock one..

          anyway that's my idea..

98s are different from the later years. The angles make it difficult. Get a whisper lid.
