    Hey Guys,
I'm not sure about this. But I took my car to a bunch of shops and they believe that this is an exhaust problem. I had a vig 3200 put in and at lock up I hear this really nasty sound. Some mechanic told me that when the vig locks up it makes the exhaust resonate somewhere but he didnt know where. He even showed me. He had the car in a lot and just reved it up to like 1600 and just held it there. There was a faint vibration coming from the exhaust somewhere, close to the muffler. Then he said during lock up theres a bigger load therefore it makes a louder noise. He didnt have time to check it out but what do you guys think? What could the noise be? I dont think its the torque converter because the noise is coming from the back close to the muffler.

The noise sounds like something is echoing. Not exactly sure how to describe it. I guess like something is rattling.

check to make sure the pipes are not coming near the drive shaft, mine have done that before. then make sure the over axle portion is not hittin the pan hard bar..mine has also done that.. then make sure there are no extremely solid hangers under there....a solid hanger made with a metal bar will make horrid noises when the load is strong and they are welded to the frame..

      good luck man

any idea why something would rattle that much w/ a higher stall converter?

It's like everything goes to lock-up ok. Everything feels fine. But when I tap on the gas a little I hear this nasty rattle or ringing sound. Many ppl believe its the exhaust but I personally am not sure about that.

if you have the trans in park, and tap the gas and hear the sound it isnt likely to be the t/c. it is very difficult to find rattles under the car w/o putting it up on a lift with someone inside to tap the pedal. (i would try this jackstands unless you are curious about how heavy the f-body really is).

higher stall lets you rev the engine higher and produce more vibration in the exhaust piping.

so that's why in lock-up it causes more vibrationg therefore making the exhaust rattle more somewhere?

If it does it at idle alot it wouldmore than likely be a heat plate.

It doesn't do it at idle. It happens very faintly when I bring the rpms to 1800-2000. But the thing is that 3rd gear its really bad. When it locks up I just have to tap the gas and I hear that grinding sound. When I WOT i hear nothing.

                    So, I'm a little confused.

something is resonating with engine rpm. btw, at wot you dont hear much of anything except muffler.

Any ideas what the resonating could be? If I put it into neutral before I tap the gas I don't hear anything. Does that mean anything?

TOO ADD MORE TOO THE CONFUSION...

I have the same damn problem with a stock tranny/converter.

At about 1400RPMs whether in neutral or in drive you can hear a rattle...sounds like a tin can in my muffler, but I can't pinpoint the sound. Any idea what to do. It only does it SOMETIMES, not ALL THE TIME so its my belief that the muffler is fine.

i know some maros and birds have a weight that sits on the back towards the end of the s-pipe right before it goes into the muffler. i think it prolly weighs around 5lbs and it is there to keep the mufflers from rattling. check and see if you've got it. if you don't, then that could be your problem. if you do have it, then your problem is obviously elsewhere.
