check the heat shield on your i-pipe as it goes by the gas tank. i have a '99 firebird and it lasted about 2 years before starting the buzzing and rattling.

btw, a simple cure is too simply turn the volume control on the radio clockwise until the noise disappears.

I'll check those things out, but in terms of turning up the radio to not hear it, yes I can do that, but I don't want others to hear my car like that on the outside. It makes it sound like a POS

anymore updates on this situation?? Here is mine, eventhough it has made it louder I dont think I can hear that noise anymore. At the time where it should have rattled, I just feel my seat shaking a lot more. Any more ideas?

check your transmission mount and bracket.

btw, have you had the car on a lift yet?

Yeah. It was put on a lift at different shops. They could not find anything wrong. So, that's why I'm puzzled. Unless these were incompetent shops.

It doesn't do it at idle. It happens very faintly when I bring the rpms to 1800-2000. But the thing is that 3rd gear its really bad. When it locks up I just have to tap the gas and I hear that grinding sound. When I WOT i hear nothing.

              So, I'm a little confused.

the exact same thing happened to me. took it to the local shop and they said it was a head shield. tighten all those bad boys up

did you put it up on a lift with someone in the car so they can rev it while you are underneath. hopefully this will produce the noise. you probably wont be able to find it w/o the car actually running unless its something really obvious (like a heat shield hanging down)

w/o a lift, i suppose you could put a friend in the car and have him rev it. you lay on the ground next to the car and try to get an idea where the noise is. its tough to do this way. but you might be able to figure out what side its closer too and if its back by the muffler.

Yeah. It doesn't make a sound unless you are at 3rd gear and going about 35mph. Other than that you don't hear anything.

your t/c locks up at 35mph?

so, to be clear, it doesnt make the noise when you rev it (trans in neutral or park)?

how about a brake stand? put it in D (or 3) and give some gas while holding the brake.

ok. i guess its not lock-up coz its only 35mph. i thought it was. it doesnt happen during a brake-stand or when i rev.
