New S pipe, with stock cat (Update)

[EDIT: So what I was trying to do was open the stock cat, and put some 3 inch pipe in place of stock 2.25 S pipe....Update and questions on the bottom]

Who has done this? What did you replace the S-pipe with? Was the outlet really 3 inches? Most people say the outlet is 3" before the reducer, but someone that is fairly reliable told me it is only 2.75".

I have a pair of 45* bends coming in sometime, and I want to know how straightforward this modification will be (although I'll be explaining it to a mffler shop, not doing it myself)

i cut the 2.5 or 2.25" pipe off right at the weld on the back of the cat and welded the 3" S-pipe right up to it... worked good for me.

My pipe (2x 45* 3" bent pipe) came in yesterday from JC Whitney. Looking under the car, it looks like there might be problem clearing that chasis piece that hangs down to the rear of the S-pipe. Now I am wondering if the 45*'s will fit there, or if I will have to get creative and remove that piece of chasis, or move the stock cat forward.

A certain exhaust shop told me that they couldn't replace the S-pipe because they didn't have any O2 bungs. But the best part was that they told me that even if they had some, they still couldn't do it because if the O2 sensor is not in the exact same place it will give me an SES light. Is there any shred of truth to this?

I went to another place, but they couldn't see me until tomorrow morning. The original plan was to try and get someone to replace the stock s-pipe w/ my 3 inch 45* bends while still using the stock cat. Looks like there probably isn't enough room, unless I moved the stock cat forward. Does anybody think that would work? If it won't I'll just say screw it and get a high flow cat sometime in the near future.

How much room did the guys with the highflow cats have when they put the 2 45* pipes in there?

Trust me Matt. Take it to an exhaust shop and let them worry about it. They are the experts. If it wasn't raining I would go out and take pictures for you. If you can wait til Friday I can show you how it all works with a high flow cat and 2 45s

What about the O2 thing?

I want to try and use the stock cat and the O2's. In order to use the stock cat, I may need to move it forward a few inches.

Thanks for the picture John_D. Is there a heat shield between the stock cat and the floor of the car that you removed? The underside of your car looks a little different than mine.

Went to the shop that told me to come back this morning. The guy wouldn't touch it because I have less than 80,000... he also told me that whoever had put the 3 inch I pipe on and cut off part of the S did something illegal... At any rate, looks like this project is going to be on hold for a while.

honestly.. i would go to a different shop.. those people are a litte bit to "honest"

I'm just goin to gut my stock cat and put in an 02 sim. then possibly replace the S-pipe but i ay leave it as the car my need some of the back pressure but to get the powr i may still replce itat a mufler shop.
