I did a search but all I could find was people putting Z28 exhausts on their V6 Camaros. A friend of mine has a Trans Am exhaust for sale and I'd like to get it but I don't know if it will fit since the Firebirds have the notches cut in the rear fascia for the exhaust to fit through. Anyone know if this works?
Would I have to do the adapter mod to make it fit my pipes?
The non-SS Z28 and and non-WS6 V8 Firebird exaust systems are the same, except for the tips. If you welded Firebird tips on, because you don't have the hanger points on your Camaro, they'd stick out and look a bit odd, to say the least.
If I were you and wanted a factory-style exhaust, i'd go to SLP's website and get a take-off SS exhaust.
Off hand I do not know if it will work, but I have some suggestions:
1) Compare the GM part numbers for the exhaust on the Z28 compared to the Trans Am. If they are the same you know it will work. The unit I have is from a 95 Z28 and the part number is 10244693 (it's stamped right into the muffler).
2) Find a Trans Am and look underneath at the back. Compare it to your Camaro. I suspect the Trans Am bumper cover comes lower to the ground, indicating that it's exhaust would come out in the same place as the Camaro (relative to the chassis of the car). Don't know anyone that has a 4th gen T/A? - try used car lots. You can even go on Sunday when no used car salesmen will bother you.
