• which flowmaster "american thunder" cat-back to get?

I se on jegs website that they have 2 3" exhaust for V8's, a 93-95 single cat. 3" cat-back and a 98-01 LS1 cat-back and I am wondering which kit to get. I've heard about the SLP "loudmouth" needing a install kit to convert it to fit a single cat car, and I am wondering if I'd need to get one designed for a lt1 or if the ls1 kit will fit fine. I also decided to not get the loudmouth since it seems too loud at times and don't want to attract any uneeded attention from the wrong people(mainly cops). Thanks for the help.

I mean the whole cat-back kit, not just the muffler.

I recommend part 17143, 1993-95 LT1 Single Cat system. This kit is just piping and a muffler, aluminized steel I believe, and includes the much needed S-Pipe as part of the system - all 3" back to muffler. 2.50" Dual pipes coming back from the muffler.

For the price, its competitive with the Edelbrock and Dynomax systems.

I would avoid the newer 98+ V6 system they have since it includes a resonator, which will smooth out and quiet the otherwise gurgly throaty rumble the flowmaster is famous for.

Under load you shouldn't have any ricing out problems with this system - I didn't when I had just an 80 series. Just don't rev like crazy in idle and expect it to sound good .

          Goodluck.

will the hangers be in all the right places, or will I need to have new ones put on?

I second the #17143. If I had it to do over again that's what I would have got. You can actually adapt the stock cat to fit a 3" pipe, might just take a good welder who's not scared to mess up though. You can hack off the back of the cat with a saber saw so that a 3" pipe will fit in. Look at my site and look at the undercar pictures, there's a 3" pipe running all they way through mine.

The hangers will work in their current possitions but most likely you will have some rattles. They can work with it and eventually they can make it where it doesn't rattle.
