  • Quick question for CAI

Yes I did a search. I was talking to this guy that made ram air mods for cars. He said that if you have too much cold air going into the engine, it would crack the block? Is that true? Right now I have the SLP CAI, and I am looking to buy a TB spacer..is that too much cold air?

heh, well, you know how they say not to put cold water on a hot engine? well, if you do, then the water will crack the exhaust manifolds cause they are so hot and you'll be driving around an f-body that sounds much like a farm truck. even the iciest cold water probably will not crack an engine head, i mean, you have to have some pretty freaking cold water to do that, and air is the same. don't worry about it, it's not an issue in the least.

Cold air won't hurt anything. Why we use after coolers, inter coolers etc......Even antartica air won't hurt. Cold air does not bring the temp of the metal down fast enough to crack it.

Water on the other hand, doesn't even have to be that cold. Take a hose and spray cold tap water on a hot engine and it is possible it can crack the block. Reason is because it cools the metal so fast. It is the cooling properties of the water and the amounts of it that do this.

So for a CAI. Go for it! Just don't drive through like creeks and rivers with it in. LOL! :D

I think someone already posted a pic in the lounge a few weeks ago. It was the purple maro jacked up on huge tires. Everyone said it looked like a redneck vehicle, while i'm not a redneck I thought it looked okay.
