Need some factory exhaust things straightened out...

Everyone says SS Take-off is good (okay, a lot of people say it). Well:

1. Isnt the SS take-off just a Z28 muffler? Since the SS's where Z28s then had the mufler striped, wouldnt saying a SS Take-off muffler be the same as a Z28-Muffler?

2. The Y87 packaged muffler on the V6 Camaros, is or is not the same as a Z28 Muffler (for this question, use model year 2000 and later)?

I ask becasue I have a Z28 Muffler at my house with no i-Pipe or over-the-axle. It wont fit onto my flowmaster pipe. Could I buy a Y87 exhaust and use that pipe? Are they the same size? Or should I just use the Y87 Muffler because its not only the same size, but the same muffler as well?

And if I used the Z28 exhaust, when people as for oppinions on SS take-off, Isnt that essential what I have?

I really am sick of this flowmaster and need to fix it.

I believe the v6 exhaust is 2.5 inches and the v8 exhaust is 2.75 inches.

First off, a "takeoff ss" muffler should be the same as a Z28 muffler.

Secondly, V6 exhaust is 2.25"

Why won't the Z muffler fit on the Flowmaster pipe? Did you have a 2.5" or 3" inlet on the Flowmaster muffler? For sure the Z muffler is longer than the flowmaster, but I think you should be able to get creative with the outlet piping and have everything line up right.

Just the way the pipes are. The stock pipe actually curves. The Z muffler, being longe, has a smaller are to work in (the tip pipe goes out like 2 inches and then back) and it would be near inpossible to cut and form the pipe to work with it.

Then they could be the same. The inlet on the muffler Z28 muffler is smaller than the pipe going into it. I know that for a fact. So the pipes should work then?

i thought that ss exhaust was made by borla which would make it better than z28, unless, both z28 and ss have borla exhaust, which i dont think so.

I measured it tonight. It's only 2.25"

I also put a couple of pics up, if you want to see how it's layed out. The pictures aren't appearing yet, but they should be within the next 20 minutes or so. Webshots delays new pics for up to 30 minutes.
