  • I need ideas on a new QUIET muffler. Going back to stock.

Well, I'm on a mission to return my Firebird back to almost stock. My son is now 17 months and I think the car is too loud and annoying for him when he's in his carseat. I have removed my catalytic converter, mounted a Flowmaster 40 series in it's place, ran 1 2.5" pipe straight out and had a 2nd pipe welded into that exiting out the drivers side all finished off with 3" chrome slash cut tips. What I need is a QUIET muffler. I'm going to mount it in the factory location. I've had a 80 series and I want to go even more subdued than that. Duramax maybe? Thoughts?

I think an OEM replacement dual-outlet muffler maintains that quiet you're looking for while still sounding better than the stock one.

I had a V8 take-off muffler on my car for a number of years and it was fairly quiet but still sounded good.

Any idea what the OEM brand is, or where I can get one? Don't wanna be raped at a dealership.

Original Equipment Manufacturer. It just refers to a part that is designed to be a direct replacement for a factory part. Like if you went to Midas and had them put one of their generic dual-outlet mufflers on.

Right. I knew what OEM was, just not the brand :D I'm going to call Exhaust Pro and see what they have.

Go to a local meineke or midas and say you want an OEM muffler.

DynoMax 17739 - better flow than Flowmaster and much quiter - still sounds good but the rice & reverb are gone.

              Just picked mine up today.

Well, Exhaust Pro, Midas, and Meineke won't touch my car because of the removed cat. I called everywhere in town. I found a really cheap Flow Tech and I guess I'll go back to the place I've had all of my work done before. It's just a long drive :( Any shot of getting an aftermarket cat for less than $50?
