Air Box Cutting Question

I put my fast toys ram air in about 4 months ago and I was wondering when you cut the air box, do you cut off the section of the lip that dips down? I ask because I can't put the block off plate on well at all due to those being in the way. At the same time they seem to kind of hold it still, though on one side its barely touching it. I don't really need the blcok off plate for more then 5 minutes at a time. Only use it when I go through a car wash that sprays underneath to wash the salt out. I'm just curious if those get hacked out too.
