  • good single exhaust question!

for the best single exhaust system, would you guys go with borla, flowmaster, magna flow, other? i have heard magna flow gives more airflow but sounds lika piece of rice, and borla sounds like the best option? also, anyone used Ravin mufflers before? theyre sold at Midas and claim to have very good air flow!

I love my Ravin. I researched and listened to all of the usual ones and liked the Ravin the best. No ricey sound at any rpm. I did not hear a spintech so no opinion on that one. The Borla is ok but way overpriced, Flowmasters sound too ricey above 2500 rpm's, Dynomax is good. Don't forget the tips have a huge impact on the final sound.

Before spending money on an exhaust, listen to as many as you can in person, don't trust soundclips, esp. with Flows, most people who make them only record the low end which does sound great. Look for a local F-Body club and see what other 6's are useing and listen to them.

Don't trust muffler shops either, they get paid to sell exhausts.

true and then not true, magnaflows are supposedly some of the most least restrictive mufflers out there for our cars and i have a magnaflow and there's no rice in it at all. it's kind of a secretive aftermarket exhaust becaues it doesn't make that much noise at idle, but when you give it gas it sounds the same all throughout the rpm range--louder of course when at higher rpms. if you don't mind having a stock tailpipe or just one tip, go with the magnaflow, they're good mufflers. i like mine a whole lot, as a matter of a fact, i prefer the sound of mine over most because i didn't want any rice and i wanted to be able to hear my music at highway speeds, but now i really want the dual look and if i can ever find a decent price on a dual exhaust, i will probably go with it. but if you don't care for the appearance drawback, get the magnaflow, you'll be happy with it.

what kind of hp/torque difference will a resonator make or take over an unrestrictive muffler? the reason i ask is because not too long ago, 12secondv6 said something about how are cars need backpressure and if we don't have it, you can lose some serious hp and torque. and a resonator is basically taking away the muffler and just making a nice sound--so would you lose any hp or torque does anyone think?
