  • Anyone have any good ideas on how to close up a FRA cut out?

I decided to close mine up after 6 months of being open, I am tired of the filter looking like it is burned, I drive in too much dust and dirt.
I origionaly made 2 pieced of sheet metel that were 4"x 7" and they were wraped in duct tape, the back part was put over the radiator and under the black plastic, the front I put a strip of duct tape to hold it down and it worked like a scoup like the old one.
I cant keep the duct tape down though, I was doing 90 today enjoying the open road and sun and when I got home it had dis lodged, I guess the air pushing up from under took the tape off, I put a new piece down but I am not counting on it staying.
I want it to be something I can take off if I want with out taking the base off the box, any ideas?

Sorry man you are the single most wussy person ive ever seen..i dont want my precious filter getting dirty so ill close up my best mod. sell that car please..you wine that its to slow..i wish i would have got something else..blah blah

then you finally get the balls to cut a little piece of plastic that is useless..and then wine cause your filter is dirty..get a K&N filter and clean it every other oil change..i think if you saw what my filter looks like after a month or so with the Fast toys Ram air you might have a heart attack..

i dont want to hear from you my car is slow, it wont spin the tires ,how can i make it faster and anything else...you do a worthy mod then want to reverse it cause it makes your filter to dirty..that the lamest thing ive ever heard

as for your fix the lower air box thing..id imagine you could do something like what comes with the FTRA.. there is a block off plate that can be screwed on and that seals off the hole..i think it could be made with 5 bucks and a local hardware store

      :D

This type of attack is getting silly. If you don't have something nice or constructive to say:DON'T SAY ANYTHING!

I would also suggest a junkyard...it would be a little tricky to get something together that would stay intact at high air speeds and all. If you need a part nunmber for the stock one, lemme know and I will look it up.

Ok you are right. I already did that... it's in my sig.

I used some aluminum flashing. Cut a piece so it is a little wider than the airbox. Then trim down the back so that the back of the flashing is as wide as the airbox. Bend the tabs that were left on the front sides up so that when you slide the piece under the box, the tabs kept it from sliding back farther. I put some elctrical tape over the edges to make it less sharp.

That sounds like a good idea, I have some time tomorrow morning before work, maybe I will try that.
I like the idea that I can still take it off if I want to.

I took a piece of aluminum air ducting and cut it so it fit over the cutout hole I made, and used screws to attach it. I also painted it black to blend it.
                  Cost like $2
