  • Need a little guidance on spark plug wires burning through.

2 of my msd wires have the boot slighty burnt through. The msd wire boots are 180 degrees. On the passenger side the way the header wraps the boots touch the header and there is noithing I can do.

Now on the boots there slightly cracked, not bad but they arch a little ( i put eletric tape tightly on there and it worked, so im hopping i can save them). Is there a way of sealing off that crack in the rubber at all. Like silcone or somthing else?

Now on the preventing of this happening again. I thought using header wrap just on parts were the header would touch the boot or is close to the wire. What do you guys think? My grandpa sayed maybe i could put a piece of aluimium pipe on the 2 boots that need protection, this doesn't seem like to bad of a idea.

I know some of you guys have had problems with this, any suggetions? The car is away for the winter so, this is somthing i need to fix before I take it out.

    1st. Replace your wires
2nd. Follow the guide I posted here http://www.fbody.com/tech/details.cgi?id=53

I installed my wires with the header wrap even on the 90 degree angles. Just make sure you wet the header wrap first to make it more pliable (bendable).
    Works great!

These wires are 80 bucks for a set, I want to try to save them, if at all possible.

I never thought of putting header wrap on the wire itself.

Im going to try to save the boots. The wires are fine its just the boot that is burnt though a little bit.

yea, i mentioned the common MSD melting problem in another thread, and someone was like "ive never in my life heard of that happening"

        oh well....

anyway, everyone that has had MSD's melt through on our cars that switch to Taylor wires say that the Taylors are much better, and dont melt....

you could just try heat wrap too, but for $35, you cant go wrong with the taylors

I got some header wrap on the way. Hopefully this takes care of this burning wire problem finally.

my cousin has a modified 5.0 mustang GT and his wires were resting on the long tube headers sooooo we put some fabric heat shield stuff about 6" on all the wires and have had no problems

as for your melted boot...i wouldnt risk it just replace the one that is melted

Well i got the header wrap on the wires, tightly woven up about half way of each wire. I deffetnially think this will take care of this problem for good.

Theres really no risk of using they wires still. The boot just barly has a crack in it. I just pushed together tightly wrapped in eletrical tape and now its protected by the wrap. If it doesnt work, then I'll get new wires, no biggy.
