• Opening up a muffler

Are the interior walls of the muffler bound to the sides of the muffler?

Reason I'm asking is that something is loose inside my muffler, something too big to come out on its own. I figured my only option is to buy another muffler, but then I got to wondering if I could open up the side of it, pull whatever it was out, then weld it back shut again. If the interior walls are bound to the sides, then this will cause problems. If not, I know it won't be perfect, but most anything would sound better than the rattling that now pervades my car.

    Any ideas?

you could probably do it. but it would be easier to just buy a new one.

Well what I'm wondering is what's the feasibility of after I weld it back shut it not making some horrible noise from me creating additional problems?

It wouldn't take long to do it, and although it'd be easier to just buy one, my checkbook says it'd be easier to do this

I couldn't see it taking too long to open it with my dremel, rip whatever out with pliers, weld it back up.
