I just got a Flowmaster 80 series exhaust installed about a month ago and I was thinking about cutting the Cat off. I asked around and all my friends said to cut it off to gain power. I was wondering how it would sound with it cut off with my Flowmaster 80 series muffler.Do any of you have this setup. How does it sound? Is it a deep low pitch sound?

Keep it, without it you wont pass Smog tests, and you will lose too much back pressure. I would go with a high flow, I got one on my car and it makes the car sound better at idle, and might help a little with performance.1995 3.4-Blackouts, 3 10\" MTX Subs, High flow cat, Faze voltmeter & air/fuel gauges Kenwood 800w amp,80\'s series Flowmaster, . ....more to come

That is an untrue statement 95slo. The actual amount of backpressure the stock engine needs is much more minute than you are thinking. Any type of muffler, smaller than 3" will be more than enough for a stock V6.<b>15.41</b> @ 89.80 & 15.45 @ <b>91.64</b>, 2.21 60ft, 3,440 raceweight, using <b>OEM</b> Equipment. <br />\'98 L67/M49 w/ 134,000 miles before spun bearing. \"<i>It\'s all stock, Baby</i>!\"

What everyone else said plus the fact that it will not sound good. If you want to experiment, try gutting it to see if you like it, with the thought that you could get a high flow cat and install that instead. A high flow cat would keep you legal, keep the car running cleaner with less stink, and give just enough back pressure with better flow capabilities in case you end up modifying later.2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph

When I hollowed mine out, I left the hollowed cat (resonator) on there. It sounded extremely raspy... god aweful. It was embarrassing. It was just for experimental purposes though, to see how restrictive our exhausts are with aftermarket power adders such as the supercharger. I'm not sure what a straight pipe would sound like. Never heard one on our cars.. wish I did. Either way, a high flow cat is legal, excellent for performance and gives the car a deeper sound again.2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph

I used to run with the same setup on my 3.4. I passed the emissions testing with the cat gutted, but it felt like I lost power. I wouldn't suggest it.- Josh<br />If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com<br /><a href=\"http://Camaroz28.cardomain.com/id/viper98885\" target=\"_blank\">\'93 Camaro Hardtop</a><br /><a href=\"http://Camaroz28.cardomain.com/id/01lincolnls8\" target=\"_blank\">\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport</a><br />\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6<br /><a href=\"http://www.ftpp.net\" target=\"_blank\">Full Throttle Performance</a>
