  • v8 style exhaust on a v6

My friends just bought a 1998 V6 camaro with single outlet exhaust. He wants to order a flowmaster catrback from summit with the duel outlets. Is it a direct bolt on pretty much?

well, if it said to be for a 98' v6, it will bolt right up but if it isnt, if its for a v8, some things might need to be tweeked.

here is the flowmaster system said to fit his car from summit.

Needs an S-pipe. Get a system designed for the earlier LT1 cars.

If you're putting the v6 kit on the car you should gain horsepower. I posted a similar question recently and got this link in repsonse: http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tech/0305phr_v6/
            Which kit are you ordering?

i dont buy that. show me one person who can prove that one. sure, i may be a little biased since i have a flowmaster, but theres a lot of variables.

flowmaster mufflers are going to be more free flowing than our restrictive stock mufflers, and the american thunder catback system has documented/proven gains for a v6 fbody. besides that its all about the size of the pipes. youre not going to loose power just because the flowmaster name is stamped in your exhaust. the reason so many people here dont like the brand is because they dont like the sound. persoally i like the sound and my setup: full exhaust, headers to highflow catco cat, with a 2.75 inch piping and a flowmaster muffler sounds great

You definitely gain HP but you lose low end torque. I estimate that with my CAI & the Flowmaster I picked up about 18HP. But the powerband & torqueband moved up about 800 RPM. It thus feels slower off the line unless you come out of the hole at least 500 RPM higher - takes a little practice, that's all.

Interesting looking at the Hot Rod magazine article - my Flowmaster sure never came with a built in resonator - but it sure needed one. That is an extra 100 bucks to get rid of the rice effect.

My cat-back flowmaster has a resonator and it still has that "ricey" sound above 4K..under that though it sounds really good.
