Anyone here from the east coast? I found (And purchased, stupid me) a glasspack muffler that I had seen some fairly decent reviews for. I'd like to put it on my firebird but I'm not sure if its legal in my state. I know everyone is going to say to save and get a catback instead but at this stage I'm interested in a deeper sound. I don't plan to rice my car out, just make it sound more aggressive because I'm so used to the 305 in my older firebird. I was told that glass packs are the affordable way to do so, plus the money is already invested in it. I live in NH, anyone know of its legality? Thanks much ahead of time.

Legality of a muffler is determined by the mood of the cops in your area. They decide what is too loud and what isn't. Mufflers are not mandatory by law but they can say whether its too loud or not.\'99 SSM Camaro V6 M5
(mod list on cardomain site; too long to list here)
http://www.cardomain.com/id/v6cam99

But I thought that some states have laws against glass packs? I plan to use a resonator to make the sound more reasonable and I'm not one for revving to crazy heights at a stop light or sign just before launching (like most of the local civic kiddies with a muffler bigger than the car itself). Just like to cruise around, myself.01 V6 Firebird, Flowmaster catback, Navmate gps, B&M Ripper.

depending on how you do the install it might start adding up to a few bucks.
you add the glass pack somehere. This taking out the old muffler. this might mean new tail pipe has to be bent and welded up, etc.
At this point the car will be very loud. so you add a resonator or another glass pack (bullet) in the mid pipe, say.... ah, never mind. Get an edelbrock V6 catback. They are supposed to be real nice.

I purchased the glasspack from summit racing. I stumbled upon some other forums in which an owner of the same glasspack noted that many people asked him if he had a v8 under the hood when in reality it was only a sixer.
The particular muffler I purchased has an inlet and outlet measuring 2.25 while the stock pipe is at 2.5 inches I believe. The glasspack is adjustable, and I was hoping that I could just have the stock muffler chopped off and the glasspack clamped in place. That way they would only have to bend a small amount of pipe from the outlet. As for getting an edelbrock cat back. I'd really like to get something like that, but the full system can get a bit pricey.
I'm mainly looking for that deep throaty sound of a v8. Granted you can't really get it to sound exactly like one, but there is no harm in trying, is there?
Would buying just the muffler instead of the whole exhaust system be a viable option? If so, what would give me the kind of sound I'm looking for?01 V6 Firebird, Flowmaster catback, Navmate gps, B&M Ripper.

your stock exhaust system is 2.25". If you have 1 tail pipe then they may be able to make it work. I have never seen a stock 1 tail pipe set up so I don't know how they in/out on the muffler is oriented. But, it might work. I would crawl under the back of the car and see if the glass pack lines up with what is already there. That should give a a good starting point.
Well, as for price, a dedicated 'built for your year car' v6 catback is only about $250 bucks or so. You can install it yourself VERY EASILY.
If you want to convert to a full 3 inch system then that gets more expenxive but is also pretty darn easy.
Seeing as you don't want the car to be WAY LOUD like mine (i don't like it either but...it works real good) then my suggestion is for a dedicated v6 cat back. Most of those systems come with two tail pipes as well. Looks good and sounds good.
If it is gonna cost you 100 bucks or so to get that glass pack installed because they need to fab up new tail pipes or something then definatly consider waiting a couple of paychecks and get an affordable cat back.
If the cat back is too loud you can also put that glass pach that you already have in the mid pipe to tone down the system.

Thanks for all the info grayman. I checked out those links and thought about it quite a bit. This car is fairly new (35k miles to me feels new anyways, my fiero has 168k miles, yikes). I do plan to keep it forever and thensome, so its probably wiser to invest the extra few hundred on something that will last. I checked out some exhaust systems on ebay and found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW
Now, I have very limited working experience on vehicles so forgive my ignorance (I'm trying to learn, really). Can I just unbolt my stock exhaust and bolt this on in my yard? Or does it require welding and specialized tools? Oh and yes, the original exhaust for my particular firebird has a single pipe.
Edit: I checked out that link on your profile grayman. My bird looks exactly like yours, nifty

I have a vforce muffler with dual dual tips that sounds alot like my cousins z28(when his is conected anyways). The muffler, tips, extra piping and labor only cost $200 at one of my local exhaust shops. Why pay for a system like that when you can get a custom one made. You pic the tips and the muffler. I had a flowmaster on my '00 before I wrecked it, it sounded nice but the vforce on my '02 sounds better and is about $30-$40 cheaper.Anything less than a six is a felony

glass pack sound like crap on a 3.8. if you used 2.5 or 3 in piping all the way it might be ok but other wise it will sound like a ricer.2002 35th Anniv.
