  • CAI Install

Can someone please give me a simplified set of instructions for installing a cai on my 3.8? I purchased one off another member (essentially 2 curved pipes and a filter) but I'm lost as to how to put it in. No I've never put one in before and yes I've searched. But couldn't find info I could use. I searched google too but found only stuff for imports. I was told the end pipe fits into an elbow. What elbow? Who's?

After staring at the engine for ten minutes my only guess was to remove the airbox and connect either through the bellows or directly to the tb. But then I've read of people with a cai and whisper lid. Which seems pointless if the airbox is not connected. Anyone have pictures or instructions or something?

So far this is the best I could find http://www.fbody.com/tech/details.cgi?id=17 See how much help it is?

I'm thinking maybe you have the wrong thing. Sounds like your set-up is for a 3.4. I'm probably wrong, but the CAI for the 3.8 I think just connects to the TB. Here is a pic of my whisper lid

    Here is a K&N CAI.

After looking on ebay, it seems there are a few fenderwell CAIs for the 3.8s, so you may be able to disregard this whole post.

The guy that sold you the intake was wrong.

That's not correct. For 98+ you need a Whisper Lid. Maybe you can sell that and get some of your money back.

A CAI on a 98+ is a kit that scoops air under the air box into the air filter. It's totally different than an older-style CAI.
