  • Cut outs

Hey, I have a 98 stock camaro and a few hundred dollar budget to do some stuff to my car. A cut out is cheaper than an exhaust so I am thinking about an electric cutout with a CAI. How would that sound? Would I need a 2.25" cut out? Whats the best brand? Would/Should I get 3" piping before the cutout and just get a 3" cutout? What about back pressure? I need some options.

P.S. I searched with not much luck.

    THanks,

as long as you don't do dual cut outs behind the headers you should get enough back pressure to maintain your low rpm torque, I THINK. Cut out would be a pretty good alternative to a very expensive catback system, I was thinking about doing exactly this to my Trans Am actually.

Edit: sigs in need of updating I guess. But its actually an LS1 so I guess I got VERY lucky.
stock 97 corolla for now...<br />LT1 soon if lucky

yes, for stock piping you need 2.25". Flowtech is pretty good. No need for 3" piping. you will see a quicker 1/4 mile. you will pay some of your low end torque in exchange.
Btw, i have one sitting at home. it's flowtech 2.5". Never installed. if interested let me know.

If its a 2.5, it couldnt really help me unless I change the piping... And I see no point in doing a duel cut out other than waisting my money... How many HP/Time difference would I see from a CIA/cut out?

sorry i meant to write 2.25" , i bought two of them as a set . put on on my stock camaro and one maybe for sale if you are interested. i have heard that on a car with header, intake, up to .2s or .3s quicker on 1/4 mile

HAHA, so not much then huh? How much gain does just a catback?

Yes, I am interested. Email me at t0nic@ev1.net if ya want. Thanks.

Let me ask an easier question, would I not have enough backpressure if I did a 3" back all the way to my cut out? Or should I do a 2.5 all the way back (from manifolds) to cutout? Or maybe I should keep it stock with cutout? What would be the best option?

i have a bad feeling about this thread. YOu used the B word (backpressure) ..now careful...Your question is kind of like this thread
                http://www.camarov6.com/ubb/ultimate...5;t=007217;p=1

In my opinion, i think just opening up exhaust way to much isn't going to give you boost that you can feel. it's true that you never lose hp but you do move you torque level back and forth. for example, with 2.5" (or 2.25") you will have more low end torque while a 3" will give you more mid or high end torque. if you aren't spraying, or supercharging don't worry about 3". again, its just my opinion.

                Oh..btw...you've got mail ;)
