hey there I just bought a 1996 camaro v6 five speed and I am wondering what types of things I can do to improve performance that are quick and cheap? I am thinnking of buying the american thunder cat back from flowmaster. thats the 2.5 inch made for the V6 is that better than the 3 inch for the LT1? thanks for the help.

You should go with the 3 inch cat-back over the 2.5 inch. It will sound better and performance gains (though minimal I would assume) will be better. It will get better with the more mods you do to you car. You should also look into getting an intake like the SLP Cold Air Intake as well. You can usually find a good deal for one of those in the for sale section here on this board.

      Welcome to the board!

By the way, this should be in the intake/exhaust section probably.

He's got a different style intake than the 95-97 3.8s. Look into a Whisper Lid from thunderracing.com or one like that. Just make sure that you get one for the 98 3.8s cuz the TB is still angled i believe.

              the most basic mods.

              intake - SLP CAI
exhaust - flowmaster for the LT1
alum. driveshaft - all of those are "somewhat" cheap and can get installed for cheap, or you can do them yourself.

since you have a manual, you may want a clutch.

go with a steal drive shaft out of a V8 f-bod, little bit heavyer but probable not noticible from the aluminum one and they are alot cheaper and easyer to find. the reason u should switch it is because we have a 2 piece one in most V6's and the 1 piece frees up some power.

thanks alot for all the help. i have a few more questions. will the 3 inch flowmaster for the lt1 sound bad at higher rpms? i dont want it to sound ricey. also what drive shaft do i get? auto or manual? since the V8 doesnt come with the T-5 will the drive shaft have to be modified thanks.

any catback exhaust for the v6 will sound bad in the higher RPM's, unless you go for the stock muffler. sorry. the only way to correct this is through headers.

any driveshaft from 1982 to present will fit in your car. try and get a LS1, though.

the american thunder 2.5 inch v6 3.8 cat back comes with a resonator, and it says its supposed to take away that sound. has anyone used that system, and what does it sound like.
