  • Custom Intake done.

Well, got a wild hair, and decided to make an intake. After 4 trips to lowes, (i get so offtask there I forgot half the stuff) I came up with this creation. I noticed that sometimes at Idle my RPMs waver a bit, and I am wondering if it is from lack of air at low speeds, that my computer hasnt adjusted yet ( i reset the ECU, but havent driven more than 5 miles), Or that the sensor ( i assume MAF) is too close to the TB. Lemme know any thoughts, I am driving on a road trip this week and will see how it works out. (with my stock airbox in the hatch lol). Sorry for the long post! heres the link

i dont know if its me, but the tubes look like they need to be wider, looks a little restrictive.. nice work though

I agree I would of used wider piping and I'm not sure about that 90 degree bend you got right at the TB seems like it would hurt more then help. Very creative though keep it up.

I would say that you want a wider pipe and i don't have the angled TB year, so you tell me if you can or can't but you should try and get the filter to go lower to the ground if at all possible.

Well, i started out with 3" piping, but I didnt think it would fit correctly w/o tking off all of the stock airbox, and as we all know, that holds up our wonderful radiators. I drove the car today, and experienced some fluctuation from 500 to 1500 rpms about 3 times when stopped. So, I might have to go to a larger piping. q: is there a certain amount of space the sensor needs to be from the TB? I'm wondering if maybe that might be the reason. And i would take it lower to the ground but was worried it would suck up water I am also possibly trying under and through the foam to my grille, but that might be too long of a pipe (is there such a thing)!! Thanks though, ill post more results as it comes along.......

don't worry about the length of the pipe ... ever seen a jeep or Humvee with the underwater /safari kit??

Yeah, but that is built for driving underwater, not performance.

Short as possible, while still reaching down to the relatively cool air, with smooth bends is the best.

So first test, from orlando to sarasota, and i have to say, it is too restrictive. Through a code before i left, running too rich. So rich in fact that with a full tank, my range was 160 miles before i was on E. Thats from full. Lol. So, back to square one, stock back on, but shaved. I'm thinkin of running Dual 3" piping to two filters ala 300zx, b/c they have two throttlebodies. I'll prob complete it this weekend, and ill post more pics then

The sensor you're talking about is the Intake Air Temperature sensor. It just tells the computer the temp of the incoming air.

Question: Why do you want to go with a setup like that over a lid? I think the lids look 100 times better than those old style setups.

Well, like i said, just a wild hair, felt like doing something instead of just slapping a lid on the car. I wanted to see how hard it would be to do, and if it will work. I'm in the process of selling it anyways and moving along to a ls1.
