  • 02 question.....

Well my SES light keeps coming on....My high flow cat is prolly setting it off.....I know I could use a 02 sim but I have a wideband 02 sensor for the supercharger. does anyone have a clue what I could do to get rid of the SES?

  • #2
Use an O2 sim. The wideband doesn't have anything at all to do with that.

You need an 02 Sim for the after-cat 02 sensor. I reccomend getting one from ZZperformance, I got mine for 30 dollars with quick shipping and no problems.

well I ran into another problem.....I put the 02 sim on and it still is registering a bad 02 sensor. I was wondering 2 things I guess.....is there like 02 sensor I can buy that is better than the stock one? and if I put an 02 sensor in....does anyone know how far beyond the cat it needs to be?

Did you clear the code, or did you just plug it in and still have an SES light? It'll take a while for the code to go away by itself, even after you hook up the sensor. You should be able to unhook the battery for 30 minutes or so to clear the code right away.

Take it to autozone and have them clear it.

Or just drive around a few days. After a couple cycles it'll go away.

would the sim problem be that I have an 2002?..... or did they fix that problem wit the 02 sensors? I got mine from zz performance

only reason it'd still be on would be fer one of 2 reasons: bad sim or faulty wiring. grab a multi meter or even just a continuity tester and see if ur gettin current in there.

well I dont know if this would make a difference.....but when they installed my headers and stuff....they put the sim on the 02....but they did not put the 02 sensor back into the exhaust system....would that make a difference? because i thought that the 02 sensor had to sense a certain heat as well?

I don't think you understand the point of the sim. It's purpose is to simulate a working sensor. If you have the sim installed, you don't need the sensor any more. It could be sitting in the garbage for all the PCM cares. The PCM thinks the sensor is hooked up and working properly. It's not even physically possible to use a sim and sensor at the same time. You could install the sensor into the exhaust if you wanted, but it would just sit there without being plugged in...it wouldn't do anything.

Was the SES light initially off after installing the sim, or did it never turn off? If it's never turned off, get the code cleared. If it was off but came on after the sim was installed, it's because that sim may not work on the 00+, in which case you should've gotten the one from Caspers.

well...I did have a bad casper one....but I looked and one of the pre cat 02 sensors wasnt in and after I put it in the code went away after about 20 mins. Thanks for the help

Pre-cat sensors are different. They can't use a simulator, and must be installed in the exhaust. Are you saying that one of the sensors that go in the manifolds was not installed? That would cause a huge exhaust leak, as well as an SES light.
