You and I share a unique problem having the 3.4L V6's with the Digital EGR valve system, BTW, mine is a '94 Camaro A4. Here is how it has been handed down to me: (1) Manifold Leak (2) Clogged up Cylinder Head or Catalytic Converter (3) Oil running into EGR Valve and clogging it up. I have been told this and I can testament to at least the clogging up part with exhaust speaking of primarily. I can take my EGR Valve off, clean it out thoroughly and will not have a problem for about 2-3 days, NO SES LIGHT, car will runn good, performance is like it ought to be and my gas mileage goes back up to around 27.5 - 28 MPG. Yay! For myself, I belive it is something "excessive" coming through the exhaust line that is clogging up the (3) EGR Solenoids interfering with Opening/Closing...For all I know it could be excessive back-pressure on the exhaust...I am still looking into it. At least I can rest assured that that is the ONLY problem with my car other than age, everything else is solid. Oh, my car's SES Light will only come on at over 50 MPH and then you take your foot off the accelerator and let it coast for a couple of secs. then the light is on. Something strange I thought I might also add since I just thought of it, the SES light seemingly doesn't want to come on when I run my Air Conditioner or when the Compressor kicks in, and if I am right, then that would have something to do with a vacuum issue, but I don't exactly understand how it could be related...I am still learning. Pal, hope this helps and if you want to ask me anything about the EGR or whatever, just give me a holler.

that man, really did help,but...theres nothing wrong with my car...except that, and i know someone who i can get a used egr for cheap, and in good condition, instead of buying a new one for $175...but i have horrible gas milage,im guess its probably around 19..20mpg,probably less,i can get about 200 miles on almost a full tank...and...for some reason,i dont think the car is runing as good as it can,due to the egr.so if i replace it..hopefuly it takes away that extreamly annoying sound. but as for running the a/c..i dont use it much,i usually keep my windows down, but i still dont notice a diffrence when its on.but thank you for your help, reply back,if you have any other ideas.

Maybe you just have a faulty EGR valve now and that is it, before I was just outlaying some of MY potential problems. Your mileage is shot, hopefully a new EGR will fix things right up. Uhm while it's fresh on my mind, when was the last time you had your Computer checked for codes? I have just recently replaced a faulty PCM in my Car and now mine runs better, has more power and I can even chirp the tires at Full throttle from a dead stop on dry pavement while going straight!!! I can't wait for a performance rebuild. Oh yeah, even with my EGR malfunctioning, the worst my cat has gotten yet for mileage has been 24.5 MPG.

im going to bump this thread...i have the EXACT same problem. the ses light throws the egr valve code, but would replacing the valve solve the problem if oil is still running in there? my mileage is shot, i get about 16mpg...1995 3.4l dark green camaro<br />stock...for now

For me, replacing the EGR valve did NOT solve the problem. The problem, I now truly believe is blow-by oil/gas exhaust coming through the exhaust and clogging the EGR, thus setting a code. The excess blow-by might be due to a valve not seating properly, valvetrain problem, leaking manifold gasket, etc. Best fix is to completely remove the EGR system and reset the PCM with EGR functions turned off. Get you a set of headers if you want'em and weld a metal plate onto the EGR tube mount there, totaly sealing it and then block off the upper intake manifold where the EGR line used to connect at. This works.

edit: the first shop i took my car to said that there was a leak in the intake manifold, but the second says that the manifold is fine but the valve needs to be replaced. now i know that the two could easily be connected and if there was a leak it could **** up the valve...but what is the likelihood that the first shop is wrong and there really is nothing wrong with the manifold?
