I had mine installed by an exhaust shop because I think it's better with welded joints. I suspect that's why most folks have it done.

I'm in the process of welding my exhaust system on myself. If you are gonna weld it yourself, I suggest using a 220v welder instead of a 110v (plug in the wall) mig welder. The 220v will give you a nicer welding "bead", it's stronger, and will last 10 times longer than 110v mig. I have both here in my garage, and I use the 220v welds on exhaust and suspension related items like my SFC's. :D
If your gonna use 220v, make sure you wear protective clothing!!! I had qutie a few spits of molten hot weld hit me in the head, and it burned right through my baseball hat!

You can do what a lot of people do. Save yourself the money and do most of it your self.
You can easily remove the old pipes, and put in your new pipes. Temp. clamp it all together, them bring it down to an exhuast shop just to weld the joints. It will save you the labor per hour, because some moron isn't fiddling with your pipes for a hour.

I put mine on myself. Flowmaster sends everything you need for the installation including clamps.
You do not have to weld the pipes. The clamps in the Flowmaster kit were fine but I bought wide band clamps. These band clamps do not crimp the pipes as bad as u-clamps. This makes it easy to remove a muffler later in case it is damaged or has to be removed to replace the fuel pump.
Clamps work fine as long as they are tightened correctly. No rattles or leaks. Plus if you want to replace your muffler or tips for any reason (including damaging a tip by backing into a parking lot stop) you can do it yourself instead of taking it to a shop to cut off and weld.Dr Todd
