  • Hand ported TB

Has anybody tried to hand port the throttle body for a 3800 series II. I've heard of it being done and wanted to know how.

If you look into this month's edition of GM High Tech Magazine, it has an article on free hp for an LT1, and it shows an indepth procedure of TB Porting. Not the same...I know, but it'll give you an idea on how to take the on the project. I have an extra TB for my 3.8 in my garage, so I'm thinking of trying it out. Keyword: "Thinking"

Search, it's been done, and it either cost a lot to get the car running properly... or... cheap and the car ran like crap until more money was put into it.

At least that was the general consensus of what I read.

I've done it and seen good results. I wrote up a how-to but this method has seen a lot of flack, if you mess it up it will run like crap.

The file is on my site.

If you have a 98 or below, porting is an option. If you have a 99+, there is not really anything in there to port, except a little flat spot where the pcv opening is.

So let's say you're talking about a 98 and below. If you take just the bottom half of the maf sensor post out, it's not too bad. Might need a maft to true it up.

If you take the entire post out, you will need to get a 99+ maf sensor for it, and rebore the maf sensor opening so the 99 will fit in it. The 99+ sensor takes up about as much room as the upper half of the post on the stock 98 and down...

I did it, took the bottom part of the maf sensor post out and everything. Remember to leave the plate behind the maf sensor in. Just cutoff the bottom part of it and put it on there.
My car ran like crap for little while and now it runs normal now. Dont feel much difference in performance though.
