• Exhaust specs for 2000 Camaro - what do I need?

I've finally decided to get a new exhaust system for my 2000 Camaro. I've decided on The Flowmaster American Thunder - FLO-17358 from Summitracing.com. I've contacted a local muffler shop - they say they can install for $50. My question is - do I also need to order a high flow cat to go with this? If so, which Catco is it that I need to order from Summitracing when I order the exhaust system? I have a FTRA installed and a K&N filter. So this should kind of finalize the exhaust mods for me - I'm looking for some performance gains and nicer sound. So am I on the right track? I've been reading for 2 days now in the forum, but I'm no mechanic - so I'm posting my direct question - any and all help is appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great posts!

An air intake system finalizes your exhaust modifications?

Anyway, I believe you will need the oval style, and get it in whatever size the Flowmaster system is. So probably 2.5"

You won't need a high flowing catalytic converter unless you want one. Your stock one will work fine for a later date you may wish to change it - and save money.

Well - it kind of finalizes it for me...I mean I'm not racing my Camaro - I'm more into the car audio part of it - which I do some competing with - so my money is turned more towards that than performance mods. Thanks for the info on the Catco - does anyone know the part # from summitracing if I order one from them to go along with the Flowmaster American Thunder Catback?

My point was that the air intake has nothing to do with the exhaust. So how it completes your exhaust was beyond me. It would have been more correct for you to say, it rounded off my engine modifications.

Bliggida, please don't be an a$$ k? Give the guy a break.

Sure, that kit will work fine. It'll bolt up and give you more sound. Its slightly better in performance terms, but nothing outstanding. You'd need a full 3" cat and maybe some nice headers to take care of the performance

              It'll sound nice though.

 Once again, you're wrong. Haven't we discussed this before?

vexter, get a whisper lid. Not only will it remove that ugly air silencer, but it will also deepen your exhaust tone. EVERYONE (or almost)with the whisper lid will agree with me.

not to bash on you or anything.. but seriuosly.. this is a camaro/firebirdv6 message board.. where we discuss problems with our cars, and perfomance and whatnot. the LAST thing people care about on this website is their grammar.

if it pisses you off to read incorrect spellings or pernounciations (sp?) go to a message board for english majors or something.

this is auto mechanic talk ova hea!

Thanks for the support guys - not all us are as car mechanic saavy as everyone else....but I can sure build a solid network

Anyway - thanks for all the posts - I'm going to do some reading about whisper lids - I kind of modified mine when I put in the FTRA - but I don't know if that's the same as a whisper lid.

Also, I appreciate the post above with the parts listed in the sig - but I'm confused about the catco still - if the Flomaster American Thunder series uses 2.5" pipes - is that Catco that's listed above (CTO-6007) going to work? Also, I'm fully aware that I'll gain 'some' power with this - but I'm not expecting anything outrageous - the sound is what I'm looking for mostly with 'some' gains in power...more 'ummphhh' if you will (don't know how to put it...) Any more info is highly appreciated - thanks once again!

O.k - now I understand - time for a Whisper Lid - wish I had gotten one of these when I put in my FTRA & K&N - seems like it would make a difference. Thanks for the info!

Both the lid and FTRA works well together.

with the catco 6007, its 3 inch in and out. you can always get a reducer to 2.5 inch.

but i think there is a catco that is 3inch in and 2.5 out. lemme look for ya.

                          ok..they have a 2.5 inch cat.

                          CTO-6006 from summit.

but your still going to need a reducer since the y pipe is 3 inches. no matter what, you'll need a reducer. so its your call on the cat..

Thanks for the info Tyler - it's much appreciated. I noted that Summitracing has the catback on backorder until the 25th - so I'll probably order next week. I really appreciate everyone's input - it sure helps a lot!
