Can home depot PVC withstand the heat of being right on throttle body?
When I had a Home Depot lid, the PVC had no problems at all. After I replaced it with a Whisper Lid, I looked at it thoroughly and found that it appeared to be exactly like it was when I first put it on.
Also, the PVC was not completely up against the throttle body. The rubber boot/connector section separated the PVC from the throttle body.
As far as a 98, I've heard they present a special challenge because the throttle body is angled instead of being a straight shot as in 99+ 3.8's. Do a search in the forum and you'll find lots of entries related to 98's that should be helpful.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

To keep the pvc from burning, get some header wrap, and wrap it around the section of pvc that is closest to the intake manifold. The header wrap will not burn through.
I'm not using it for cold air intake, it's for an upper intercooler pipe. In my situation the angled throttle body is probably better since it points downward and to the right direction where my pipe is coming from.
