  • Major Problems.. 3.4L manifolds (a pipe inside a pipe)

Ok so the starter on the 3.4L is rediculous, so we had to cut a piece of the exhaust and then were just going to weld it back together because it wouldn't be that bad. Well after cutting the pipe and removing the starter.. the manifolds and pre-cat pipes have a small pipe inside a pipe!?

Now we can't just weld it back together, does anyone know of how to weld the two pipes together or what the pipes are for?? Plz help, need car operational ASAP.

    Thanks a ton,
    Scott

*edit - time for headers? what brand?

Pacesetter makes nice headers for your car. They come highly recommended around here.

the manifold has a pipe inside a pipe? Is that what you're saying? I dont remember seeing 2 pipes when I looked at mine.. why would you cut up the manifolds anyway? Just unbolt it.

by the way, don't do any welding on the car with your battery connected.

Yea that is what I am saying, and we didn't just unbolt it because it was only going to cause us to break bolts and make a bigger problem for us. It is going into the shop to get fixed in a few days and getting a cutout put in.

Ps, it is only before the Y-pipe converges to one pipe and after where it connects to the manifolds, and from what I heard, ALL 3.4 and 3.8 camaros have them.
