Ok, I decided not to try to hook up a cable to replace the electric throttle. I was planning to make an adapter plate to put my old tb on the new intake.
But....
On the 98, there is an idle air control valve above the butterfly. This is slightly opened and closed by the pcm, to maintain the correct idle. It also happens to be in the intake.
So if you put the straight intake on, no more iac unit.
Apparently the electric throttle unit also serves a dual purpose as the iac, and slightly opens and closes the butterfly to manage the idle speed.
I figured this little gem out, when I was looking at the new intake, to figure out where the iac air passage was, in order to plan out the adapter... There's just not one.
An external iac control would have to be plumbed from the tb to the intake. Too much fabricating for me...
At least my curiousity is finally satisfied on the feasibility of this mod. It's been on my mind for a long time.
