  • One bad thing abour Ram Air!

I was on my way home tonight, and it was raining, HARD! Well, I took all the usual precautions, and avoided deep puddles. But that's hard to do in Lubbock b/c we have little or no drainage systems. SO I could see the curb where it happened, but I guess there was a pot hole or something, my car got flooded enough to kill it. I took apart the intake all the way to the throttle body in the middle of the road, and EVERYTHING was wet. I guess the ram air created a vacuum for the water, and sucked a BUNCH up in there. So I soaked my t-shirt to try and dry some of it up, but didn't wanna try to start it really. So anyway, ram-air is good and bad. BE FORWARNED if you are thinking about getting it.

Also, any suggestions of what to check, or what to make sure is dry before I try to crank it tomorrow morning? I don't wanna mess anything up. Thanks!

Yeah, the K&N was PRETTY wet, and there was some water (not much) sitting against the butterfly. I got ads much as humanely possibly off of it with a t-shirt,a nd then reached behind the butterfly with a knife and t-shirt conbo, it was not wet that I could tell behind there, but maybe a little. Anybody else done this? I know people with other cars who have, an they were fine after many hours of letting it dry. I have never heard of a newer F-body doing so.

if i was you and im glad im not in this situation id take the filer and let it dry..take off the lid and such and the close the hood and let it sit for a day

might want to look into a block off plate for that SLP CAI

Yeah, I am hopping for your sake the water stopped up the Air flow enough to smother the engine and kill it, and like Jeff said let everything dry for a day before starting it, take off your lid, clean and dry filter, etc....... :D

Well, I went to try it this morning and it would not even try to crank. I talked with my mechanic and he said there's probably water in one or more cylinders, making it where they can't go all the way up or down. So I am taking them out soon, turning over the engine hopfully, replacing them with my new plugs, and then HOPEFULLY evrything will be alright. If not, since my mechanic is a friend and works at my delaership, he said a warranty will be arranged, andd possibly, if need be, a rebuild. But I hope it doesn't come to that.

UPDATE!!!! I got the plugs off (no small task), and only ruined two of the wires. So I guess I might as well replace them now since I am there. When I went to crank the motor with no plugs as instructed, a lot of water started coming on out! Bad and good there. But I am gonna let it drain for a good while, and then go from there. Wish me luck getting them all back on!

For those it may concern: It took me 30 minutes to get all the plugs and wires off. Not bad for my first time I'd say.

Well, I changed everything as far as plugs and wires, tightened them all abck down, cranked, and my battery is too drained. Waiting for a friend with cables. And since my friend (machanic) works at the dealeship, it is not a huge problem. I would just have tot ake off ram air, put on stock lid and baffles, and I'd be good to go. Since iyt's the mechanics that make the call on who's fault it is, he won't flag me for it. Hopefully this got the problem fixed though!
