  • TB Spacer anyone?

    My neighbor who works in a machine shop said he was willing to machine me TB spacers... Yes, that's right, REAL tb spacers, in anodized aluminum if you wish...

    I will probably make these only for the 3.8's
    cause that's what I have. (however, if there is high enough demand I could make another production...)

    It looks like on the 98+ cars that the coolant going into the TB enters and leaves through the gasket. If I can get anyone to verify this for me, I could work this into the design and this mod could be a TB spacer + coolant bypass.

    let me know.

        Well the price depends on the number run. He was talking under $50. The one that I will initially have him machine will be a half inch. (as I don't have any information to go on to determine the best spacing...) And the first production run probably won't be anodized. He said anodizing will cost about $600 for up to 100 spacers. However it will also cost $600 to anodize just 1 spacer... (NOTE: this is only for one color...) So I will only be doing this if there is enough demand.

          wait a minute...your telling me its gonna cost you 600$ to get 1 throttle body spacer thats only a 1/2 inch anodized? Or are you saying that its gonna cost 600 to anodize 100 just one color? please tell me i understood that wrong, Because i work in a machine shop and it only costed us 300$ to get 300 4X3 inch parts annodized red. it was only a Dollar a part plus tax. Id be interested but i think they could be made for less. Not trying to piss you off or anything im just curious.

                I'm interested in one as well. I had one on my Bronco it seemed to help a bit. Also wouldn't 1 inch be a better starting point?

                  Aluminum is going to conduct the heat, if its not an insulator I don't want it...

                    It'll cost me $600 to get a lot of these anodized, which is up to 100 spacers. So if I anodize only one, it will cost me $600, but if I do 100 it will still only cost me $600.

                    If you know somewhere that'll do it cheaper, that's great... hook me up with that guy.

                      I was originally only going to make one, for myself. And I have a 98 which means I have to deal with gm's stupid intake (which puts the throttle body at a downward angle...) This means that every little bit I space this TB out, I'm also reducing my intake capabilities by sharpening the angle of incoming air.

                      I think you'd be correct in saying that about 99+ cars. (Assuming the throttle bodies on 99+ use the same gasket as the 98's.)

                        Good point, however you're not even using the coolant bypass mod... so correct me if I am wrong but it wouldn't make a bit of difference if the TB is insulated from the intake manifold since hot coolant is being pump directly into your TB.

                          FYI, aluminum is a good heat conductor. So, you are pretty much doing it for the looks then? Cause with an aluminum spacer, the TB will remain nice and hot.

                              How exactly wil this help performance? If it doesn't help performance, why do it? Will your guy do a spacer that will allow the attachment of a ls1 throttle body to a v6 manifold?
